After working double shifts, not sleeping for 25 hours, and partying in Queens I managed to drive home some 24 miles. The problem? I lived 26 miles away.

I fell asleep behind the wheel 1 mile from my exit and put the car into the median guardrail of the Southern State Parkway, spun it under an overpass, and ricocheted across 2 lanes into a drainage ditch.

I had ordered new BMW roundel badges to replace the old faded ones and had just put them on three days earlier. They were the only things that managed to survive the crash relatively unscathed, so I popped them off the car and put them in my pocket as I hobbled off the highway to find help.

“Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a Prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires”.

- Nicolo Machiavelli 1469-1527
