That's rediculous.

Things we know.
- These people were not necessarily part of the Dharma Initiative though they are familiar with it
- Time may be a part of this, electromagnets act like gravitation and gravity is the bending of time space, I'm not against that... plus how is jack somewhere in a north pole cube staring at a computer screen when the magnet fires...
- The cages were some kind of testing for animals (bears and dolphins and sharks were mentioned)
- The pods seemed to be for human testing
- The Dharma project always focuses on some kind of testing
- there are other prisoners, and they were not surprised when the plane crashed, in fact they expected survivers from the crash
- They are violent and only seem to have use of certain people - They have extensive files on Jack at least

It would seem this is more of a strange government installation turned wako
