Insight: A good do-it-all car - November 10, 2018, 08:22 PM

Looking to pick up another car. Requirements:

- Manual Transmission
- High 20s+ highway MPG
- Can tow a motorcycle+mini trailer
- Four door preferred
- Wagon preferred
- Optional - faster than a caw caw ninja 636
- $4000 or less

I've been looking at a lot of wagons recently. Mazda 3, 325it, GTI, etc.

Your preferred options will keep you within a bracket of 6 models, many of which you already identified if you want to stay within wagons & four doors.

I have a feeling that all roads may converge at Subaru based on the set of criteria you've listed.

Wishful thinking.

Here are some quick picks:

I'd recommend sticking with Honda/Acura/Toyota if you can find something with low enough mileage, rather than a higher mileage Euro that's going to have you in the hole or back looking for another car again.

Mini Cooper Clubman should tick those boxes, but finding a trustworthy one sub $5k might be difficult.

The only thing you can trust is that it'll be at the dealer.

LOL that gave me a chuckle.

Looking into the Acura RSX - has a 1500lb towing capacity surprisingly. Checking one out this week...

Not at all hard to find. After my wreck I couldn't use my right hand and left foot so had to turn away from stick and I picked up a cheap 2.5 Altima. They did make in manual.

18 gallon tank
Over 30 on the hwy. Mid 20s when I tow with it and I tow often mainly due to aero of rear gate catching air.

4 door

Was 4k when I bought it probably worth 3 now.

The towing criteria is sort of null and void. Even my old 993cc 3 cylinder geo was towing an open trailer and zx12 to and from the track. 50 mpg dropped to 35. But pretty much anything can tow 1000 lbs.

Just go thru craigslist and see what meets your criteria. Click on anything less than 4k and you should find something sooner or later.

A good car for it all - November 14, 2018, 10:20 PM

I have an option for you. Its been good to me but I now have 3 and a track van so I am selling this one. It maybe a bit outside of your price range but its got many years of service life in exchange for the upfront price.
Yes it can tow, gets good mileage and can hold all your gear.
Not a manual but its a dry clutch so its close to a manual but without the other pedal on the floor to distract you in traffic while on your cell phone.

2013 Ford Focus SE, 4 door sedan, 4 cylinder, automatic transmission, bright silver 54,804 low mileage car $7400.
Car is in great shape runs and drives great, would be a great commuter car or a solid no worries car for a student. Clean and clear title, no liens
Second owner car, the first owner was my roommate.
-Non-smoker car
- No accidents
- In good condition with normal beauty marks
- New tires are recent
- New front and rear brakes
- Oil change regularly, transmission recall work done at dealer.
-A/C Heat works great
-Two keys plus remote start key fob
-Interior great shape no holes or rips
-Passed VA Emissions and safety inspection with no issues
