Shipping a bike - December 29, 2017, 09:39 AM

I bought a Thruxton R from a dealership in New Orleans. I'm currently soliciting bids on UShip. The middle of the bell curve is $364, but all my offers are in the $500+ range. Is that reasonable? Any recommendations on shipping?

Federal Motorcycle Transport | Motorcycle shipping.

^That's another company worth contacting. I haven't done business with them but had them saved for some reason.

Flight - $200.00
Gas - $45
Hotel/Camping $100.00
Food - $50

Total $400.00

I will do it for $420.00 but it will have about 1500 miles on it when you get it.

I have had every bike shipped through UShip with no issues. As long as they have the insurance and a closed trailer and some legit reviews....go with it.

Ducati shipped from Arizona
Aprilia shipped from TN
KTM shipped from Iowa

All made it safe. Main thing is make sure the seller has taken good photos of everything along with the forks given a lot tie down the forks for security.

That was my thought as well which is why I bought the bike even though it's over 1000 miles away. A friend of mine had a bike shipped from Wisconsin and it was fine, though I'm not sure how much he paid. I'm hoping for it to cost no more than $400.

Just as a reference point, I bought my RC51 over a decade ago. It was shipped from Metaorie, LA not very far from N.O.
I paid $550 for an insured, bonded carrier to pick it up and drop it off at my doorstep.
Mind you this was in 2004/5 dollars.

Checked with my buddy who had his Daytona shipped from Wisconsin. Cost him $350. Just a touch closer than NOLA, it seems like $400 isn't ridiculous. I think he did a "name your price" listing instead of an auction though.

I used them to ship a bike from Jacksonville, FL to Reston in 2010. Just under $500. No complaints.

I would include in your contract that the shipper needs to do a walk around video, slowly, and take full pictures of the bike before its loaded up, and send them to you, before he leaves. He wont fuck your bike up if you pay him to do it, and if he does, his insurance will cut a fat check. no way to deny that claim. just have the camera rolling when it shows up.

its gonna get scratched lol.

That looks to be about 1100 miles, one-way. For comparison's sake, I just shipped two bikes 1700 miles from Denver to Reston for $450 each. I found the broker on uShip as well. Let me know if you want their contact information.

I don't understand why I keep getting "questions" from shippers where they simply tell me about themselves. It's like they reach out to make contact but don't put in an offer to ship. Are they hoping I look them up elsewhere on the web and contact them outside of UShip?

One guy offered $400 over a message and I said fine. I requested a bid from him and I haven't heard back.

I hear that UShip takes 20% of the sale which is pretty significant. I wouldn't blame shippers for attempting the same antics at that kind of overhead, but it's unclear if that's what they're attempting to do.

That may be the case. They charged $67 for the $900 bid.

Finally got a shipper booked. Ended up being $400 + $30 fee for enclosed transport. It pays not to be in a hurry to book. The guy who ended up bidding $400 started at $500. Hopefully I have it by the end of the month.
