Toll Pass Mounting (EZ Pass) - July 15, 2018, 08:56 AM

I am assuming some of you guys have mounted your toll passes on your bikes. I have had my toll pass mounted to my ZRX with a clear windshield and never had any issues. I want to mount it on another bike now and am a bit unsure of how the antenna works to communicate with the transponder, does it need to be in line of sight? I want to mount it on the inside of a windscreen that's blacked out and don't know if it will still pick up, anyone confirm where they've had it work at? Are these picked up a line of sight or proximity?

Humm, that's a cloth style suit right? my jackets are all leathers I wonder if it will still go through?

I have been just pulling it out of my pocket and holding it up in the air above my head like john cusack as I drive up the toll...

I just really want to stop doing that...lol

it will work through leather. Keep it a front pocket it should work fine.

If it misses for some reason, and you are in/on a vehicle that is in their system, you won't get a violation.

Mounting on the inside of a windscreen is fine. It's RF. As long as it can pass through the material it will work.

The RF receivers at the toll points are fairly high gain. It should be able to see the transponder through your jacket's material.

If no, then suction cup it to the top of the tank.

But, if not mistaken, and this doesn't apply to all the new funky toll roads that seem to be opening up around the region, Motorcycles don't have to pay the toll to use HOV or certain roads.

Sidenote: 10 years ago there was only 2 toll roads in the region. Dulles and the Dulles Greenway.

Now, there are at least 4 with another 2 on the way.

@ CCS762ZX6, thank you forgot I could just add it to my account. Just added it in.

@ heist, in a little scared of that suction cup design... a lot of people say they pop off even in a car, let alone on a bike.... really dont want to lose it on the road.

I guess next time I need to hit a toll Ill just try it in the jacket and see what happens.

Neodymium magnets then. One to your tank (or even your tail section). One of the back of the transponder - CLICK! You'd have to be an accident before it comes off.

On a side note, I called EZ pass VA, to confirm that high strength magnets wont interfere with signal or internals in any way, they confirmed its fine. But when asked why I was mounting with magnets, I informed them it was to place on my motorcycle tank.

Their response; "We suggust motorcycle riders mount them on the front of their helmet to ensure a better reading"... I literally laughed out loud because I thought he was joking.... he wasn't.

I guess i will just keep that in the back of mind for whenever I decide its time to look like a giant tool, I'll know just what to do.

That sounds like they're asking for litigation.

@heist If he drove his bike into a large group of peole leaning head first, the news report the next day would read "Motorcycle crowd collision leaves 12 injured and 7 women pleasured" lol

@TNT maybe trying avoid it.. either way thats a rediculous request in my book.

Oh and magnets came in today, and worked perfect. FYI they were way stronger than I expected so only put one in each corner if you go this route and also put clear tape over them so they dont scratch your tank as metal on metal.
