66 Eastbound Front Royal 12/27/10 - December 28, 2010, 09:32 AM

Anyone that's an EMT or has a police scanner hear anything about an accident on 66 Eastbound around Front Royal last night?

Around 11pm my wife and I were driving eastbound. There were very few cars on the road and without streetlights it's dark as shit out there. There was a line of about 5 cars running about 65-70mph, we were the 2nd car in the line. Around mile marker 25 the car in front of me, about 500 feet ahead, swerves suddenly and violently. My first thought was he hit a patch of ice so I immediately slow way down as do the rest of the cars around us. Turns out there was a guy standing IN THE CENTER OF THE ROAD wearing dark clothes and completely invisible until we were right on him and the car in front barely missed him.
I have no idea if he was drunk/high/suicidal, but it was definitely a butt puckering moment. We called 911 immediately to report it and I would be surprised if he DIDN'T get hit.

Tis the season. My friend is a train engineer hauling freight around the east coast. Says this time of year it happens all the time. People stand on the tracks or will park there car on the tracks. Takes about a mile or so to stop one of those trains and that is on a good day with perfect weather. I think he has hit two people now.

There was a person found by the Rt66 exit at Nutley that was taken to the hospital...the story is still unfolding, but apparently he was assaulted somewhere else and dropped off at the side of the road? Anyway, he's still in the hospital... I suppose if I were internetz hip I would post a link, but I'm just lazy...

Sounds like it was the same night you saw the guy...

They would have had to make good time if they beat him up and drove all the way to 66 and Nutley in under an hour:

Pedestrian Found on Nutley Street and I-66 was Assaulted

A 20-year-old man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being found on an Interstate 66 on-ramp Monday morning (Dec. 27, 2010). Virginia State Police are asking the public to come forward with any information about the incident.

At 12:08 a.m. Monday, Virginia State Police were notified of a pedestrian on the Nutley Street northbound ramp to I-66 east. Upon arrival, State Police discovered the pedestrian was seriously injured and the man was transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital. He remains there in critical condition.

State Police are investigating the incident as a criminal matter as the man was assaulted before being found on the ramp. No vehicle was found at the scene.

Anyone who may have been in the area of the ramp at around midnight and may have seen a vehicle or individual(s) stopped there is asked to please contact the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Fairfax Field Office at (703) 803-0026 or email BCIGID7@vsp.virginia.gov.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- A man found shot on an Interstate 66 onramp last week died of his injuries Wednesday, Virginia State Police said Sunday afternoon.

Jabrill Y. Mara, 20, of Springfield, was found by police about midnight on Dec. 27 on the Nutley Street northbound ramp to I-66 East. Mara was transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital, dying two days later, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said.

Virginia State police are looking for anyone who may have been in the area of the ramp about midnight that evening and may have seen a vehicle or individuals stopped there. If you have information, contact the police at 703-803-2668.
