Inauguration Traffic - January 9, 2009, 10:59 PM

Many of you may already know about this, but for those who don't, check out the links below for driving restrictions during inauguration day and the few days before and after.

Anyone not off that day and have to find a ridiculous way to get to work? I need to commute from Chantilly to McLean for work that day...but I'm sure I'll be calling in sick.

If the weather isn't too bad,I may walk down to the inauguration.

ALL MY HEROES ARE RUSSIAN...GO CAPS!

Well you see, Norm, itís like thisÖA herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.-Cliff Claven

Yes, yes I do! I've come to expect nothing less of MoCo, any event in 50 miles will somehow make the Pike much worse. All the Obama peeps will be coming down from Rockville, Gburg, Gtown, etc. down 355 through Bethesda. I love Obama to, but not enough to squeeze into D.C. for. If it were Bill Clinton, different story.

I predict that going north on 355 won't be nearly as bad as going south. However, getting to 355 may be a problem. You might want to consider showing up to work that day at 6 am or something like that, before the madness starts.

I drove thru DC yesterday and it's amazing. All you see is hundreds of port-o-potties and hundred of movable railings to guide pedestrians.

I guess Don John's definitely won't be suffering from the horrible economy

The Toll Road is listed as "HOV-2" for several days...does anyone know whether that is ALL LANES HOV-2 or only the HOV LANE IS HOV-2 throughout those days?

To follow up on my own question, I just called the local VDOT office and it just rings forever with no answer. I called the Toll Road office and they said they didn't know but their assumption was that HOV-2 is only applying to that lane and all other lanes should be open to general traffic. I then called the state police and they had the exact same answer. Apparently no one knows, but they're all making assumptions.
