Need some expert advice on 211/skyline - August 24, 2006, 09:16 AM

I'm going to be staying in Madison VA and I made this route using google earth, I've never been out that way so I'm not sure if this is a good route or not. So, could someone who knows review and tell me if it's a good ride and then where to be extra careful for radar?

thanks.

From Madison:
James Monroe Hwy East
Nearing Culpepper, VA, bear left @ Madison Rd.
Bear left again @ S. Main St.
L. (west) onto 522 / Sperryville Pike
522 becomes Zachary Taylor Hwy
Follow 522 until just before the 211 intersection, continue straight onto Main St.
Left (west) onto 211, up the mountain
Right exit to go South (left) on Skyline Dr.
Follow skyline and exit @ 33 E (left) if time is up. To get back to Madison go 33 E until just after Dyke Rd. Bear left on 33 E business, and left onto 230. Follow 230 back to 29, and 29 to Madison.
If time permits, continue on Skyline past 33 all the way to Waynesboro. Go 64 E into Charlottesville from Waynesboro. From Charlottesville go 29 N back to Madison.

Even stock factory bikes get tickets there for improper equipment. 211 is the devil. Run fast, run far.

If you don't do anything silly, aren't in a pack of 4 or more other bikes and ride at posted speed, the fuzz leaves you alone.

I live in Culpeper and ride 211 very regularly and I've noticed that during a weekday I almost never see a cop. Now, I guess I should say that I ride there generally between 12 and 3 but I am usually only up there for about an hour just going up and down the whole time. I figure I shouldn't overstay my welcome and just leave while everything is ok. When I go up there on a weekend, there is, as you would expect, a ton more traffic, both cars and bikes, and I see a trooper about once every five minl. So I guess it all comes down to when you'll be taking this route.. Have fun!!!!!

I haven't seen many cops up there on the weekends now. Then again, I didnt see any bikes either. I am also sad that SunnySide farm's rest closed as did the deli that was o'er by cooters old shop. I used to love going down there and checking stuff out. Not much to check out now-
