Photo Radar on Mass Ave. - October 25, 2010, 09:59 AM

The great state of MD is putting up new photo radar on Mass ave at Brookeway DR in Glen Echo. This is in between Little Falls rd and the fire station. The speed limit is 35 but most go 45 to 50 so this is gonna generate some good cash for that county. Time to rig up a tag flip.

Yup that is me and that is were they are setting up the boxes. They are silver and about 4 feet tall and 2 feet square. Going both ways. You can see the white lines on the road.

No FKUKKING WAY!!! AAAAHAHAHA that photo is cash money!!!

On a serious note, the silver boxes are going up everywhere, and ya gotta be careful because they hide that shit behind trees and utility poles. They have a lot more spots than boxes so you also never know when they'll set them up in a given location. The solution is to just memorize your routes. Even so, they really are going in everywhere. Michelle and I almost got popped on Avery Road last Friday afternoon.

Why doesn't anyone take a bat to them? Or spray paint or even hairspray?

This ^

Seriously....They would stop putting them up if they kept getting damaged and the upkeep would be more then they brought in. The thing that really pisses me off is the cameras have absolutely no proof who is driving the car and can't testify in court that you were the one who was driving, yet you are somehow still responsible for the speeding fine?

They take the portable camera boxes (the silver ones) away in the evenings because they know full well that otherwise, come dawn they'd be in a hurting condition. So, hitting one of these in broad daylight is your only chance, and it's fairly risky. I hate them, but I'm certainly not gonna go to jail for busting one up. I'm guessing they probably have video surveillance set up somehow to catch would-be vandals.

Just recently Monkey County started ramping up in a big way. It's clearly about revenue because they've been caught putting them up without doing the prerequisite traffic studies first. I know for sure they didn't conduct a study on Avery near 28/Norbeck where they JUST put one up within the past week to 2 weeks.

I bet a good pellet gun would get it done from a distance. Paintball guns, wrist rockets, or even real bullets if you feel there was no chance of damaging someone would be excellent options for taking out the nanny state enforcement.

If they really wanted to limit speed I'm pretty sure they could handle it with RFID transmitters in speed limit signs (or instead of speed limit signs...) and force car manufacturers to limit speed based on signal. I'm sure there are dozens of other technical ways to keep people from being outlaws. but this isn't about solving a speed problem. This is about generating revenue. Turning citizens into outlaws with the goal of revenue generation is criminal.
