Figured I'd post this in the hopes of maybe educating a rider or 2. As I drove to work this morning I saw a guy on a sweet lookin SV 650 (Nate you would have been proud) in traffic a few cars up in the right lane. Now as we all know it's windy as hell out there today. I could see the rider fighting the wind gusts as best he could, staying low to the bike for warmth and balance. Suddenly the unexpected happened, traffic picked up and so of course so did the rider but as he did so a strong gust of wind came shooting through and cleared out a a good amount of both wet and dry leaves from the gutter into the road. The rider saw it at the last second but still began to lose a traction fast as the leaves scattered under his tires. I'll give him credit in that he maintained control and steadied the bike back up but you could tell it woke that man up with the quickness. Glad he was ok but it made me think of other riders out there who have never experienced something like that or seen it happen. Also reminded me of my accident on inovation where the same thing happened to me except it was wet grass.

Be carful out there guys and girls!! Stay alert this time of year cause theres all new dangers. The gusts of wind can be bad enough if your not paying attention so stay alert. Also if the rider I'm talking about is on the site (blue naked SV 650 with a holeshot exhaust and blakced out rear sets) lemme just say, nice job keepin your cool and regaining control of your bike and staying in your lane!!

-Johnny

appreciate the comments, Johnny. Any basic riding tips on how to handle that situation, i.e. lean, slow, riding and lane position, etc for some of the newer riders?

Theres no real way to predict when it's gonna happen bro. All I can really suggest is if you find your self starting to lose traction and your going straight stay calm and maintain your balance. No sudden movements. If your leaned over DO NOT chop your throttle or grab a handfull of brake as is with any turn. Just stay awake out there!!!

I usually sleep while riding. This way I dont have to react to anything such as leaves or wind. Sometimes I just sit at a light when it is green so I dont have to "chop" or use the throttle at all. Safer that way I think.
