FYI: Kawasaki Ninja ZX14 Recall - June 5, 2008, 01:56 PM

This might be relevant to your interests if you already own or plan to buy a 2006-2007 ZX14.

"The rear suspension can collapse when a crossmember separates from the frame. Failure of the frame could result in the rear of the motorcycle collapsing creating the possibility of a crash resulting in injury or death."

Stay safe out there ladies and gents.

June 3rd, 2008 by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider"

Kawasaki has issued a recall for the Ninja ZX14, model years 2006 and 2007. No production dates or VIN numbers are specified, nor is the number of units affected. Read the details below.
Manufacturer: Kawasaki
Model Year: 2006, 2007
Models affected: ZX14
NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V222000
Potential Units Affected: Not Specified

Problem: Kawasaki is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 ‘Ninja’ ZX14 motorcycles. The rear suspension can collapse when a crossmember separates from the frame. Failure of the frame could result in the rear of the motorcycle collapsing creating the possibility of a crash resulting in injury or death.

Corrective Action: Dealers will check the torque of the engine mount adjusting collars and inspect and possibly replace the frame if necessary. The recall was expected to begin during May 2008. Owners may contact Kawasaki at 1-866-802-9381.

Indeed, I know he was excited to get it... to be honest I almost bought a ZX14 but decided on my cruiser, caught my eye more.

Wait, didn't he have some trip planned or something? For some reason I seem to recall him mentioning a trip...?

Damn that would be pretty bad to happen at a nice speed. Ouch....

Can't choose between the R1 and the 10R so I am keeping both but settled with an 1198S when I came home

Keep it up!!!!!!!

Just to give an update... I have been on a lot of ZX14 forums and it seems no one is finding any issues... kinda as expected. Basically the procedure (from what I understand) is to check the torque on the bolts, if they are with in spec then visually inspect frame weld. If torgue is not correct, then further more involved inspection is required. FYI... many were torqued slightly under the spec... hu? Anyway... goes in the 19th... not scared.

No issues with mine. It's an easy check on the torque. Mine was first and 3 more came in while mine was being done. None of the 4 were a problem. I would think the cracking would be very rare unless your always balls out while riding.
