Gixx 750 lurches and nose dives after fill up - June 25, 2006, 10:29 PM

Any thoughts on what nay be causing this problem are appreciated. Ever since I filled up at the Sunoco by George Mason and pulled out of the station at 3/4 throttle and about to shift into 2nd the bike nose dived compressing the forks like it ran out of gas then immediately
3/4 throttle was active. It did this bucking 3 or 4 times and then twice again before I got home. I usualy always use the same gas station so this was an aberation. Felt like a vapor lock on my old carbuerated bike. Does anyone think they had water in there gas along with the 10% Ethanol causing this
problem or should I look at something else? Also the 2nd time it happened I noticed the low gas light go on and off with the lurching, Any ideas? Thanks

That sounds exactly water in the gas to me. Do you park the bike outside or is it inside/covered. With all the rain we've had lately meby some water could have leaked in thru the seal around the cap.

Thanks Carnage, No I didn't put diesel in. Funny though. I park it in a garage
and never ride in the rain. I even hand wash it. So if it is that Sunoco with watery
gas, where is the petcoc to drain the tank? I need to get a svc manual. I see the drain
tube underneath along with a few others but I'm not sure how to drain it. Any help there
without saying hang it upside down and shake it would be helpful.

There is none to drain the tank. The tube you see is for overfill purposes. I have never worked on any year gixxer so dont hold me to this.

You may need to pull the tank and then the feed hose to the fuel pump. That should allow you to empty the tank without spiling gas every where.

Ethanol fuels are wreaking havoc in the car world. I won't get too far into it, but you need to get an isopropyl based fuel system dryer(gas line antifreeze) ...make sure it isn't a methyl alcohol based dryer. Also needed is a good fuel system cleaner, Coleman in Falls Church sells the BG CF5, a 44k for motorcycles. This will clean the system and prevent further problems, it will also free up horsepower from dirty injectors.

10-4, I actually used a can of BG 44 K about 10 days ago, that stuff does
rock! So I'll get a can of fuel system dryer. I don't know if you've taken a close wiff
of a tank lately but it doesn't even smell like gas any more with the what they says
is 10% ethanol. Danka for the suggestions

take your tank out. take out the entire fuel pump maybe 5 bolts under the tank. gas will spill right out everywhere might not be the best way but thats the way to get the gas out

or get a pump and try to suck as much gas out into a container then remove the 5 bolts under the gas tank.

jtatooz it was serviced about 1500 miles ago and it has 8000. I put
BG 44K in the past week or so.Sounds like I;m draining the bitch, I bought a length
of tube with a hand pump so I;ll siphone it as dry as I can. I'll sell anyine that has a Harley 4.5 gallons of watery, ethylanly with a pinch of gas for FIH DOLLA anytaker FIH DOLLAH.I will lower the price fee fi fo fum if not I'll pour it in the front door of the Sunoco that sold it to me and accidently drop my Stogie in the fumes.
