Idle swing..? - February 12, 2009, 10:24 AM

Anybody know what could cause the RPM's on my R6 to jump as much as 1500 while at stop lights/in neutral then idle back down, repeat? The bike runs like a champ but it's annoying and I'd like to try and fix it but don't know where to start.

Does the bike jump UP to 1500RPM at idle or does it jump 1500 RPMs?
When was the last time the oil was changed, and the bike was serviced? How many miles are on it?

It normally idles at like 1500 then it'll jump to 3000. It does this basically every time I ride it and the previous owner had laid it down so I don't know if that has anything to do with it... I'm not exactly mechanically inclined but I'm trying to learn. Oil was changed about 700 miles ago and I think she's got about 6,500 miles on her but I'd have to double check cause my memory kinda sucks.

I just really hate taking my stuff to shops. Not the smartest though, I know.

Overboard, there's a couple guys on here that do m/c work on the side. I'm sure they'd be happy to teach you how to work on the carbs.

Check with Nudist or JohnnySpeed954. Both are good guys.

both my gsxr's used to do that hahah it is very annoying...when it revs up...adjust your idle screw till it drops back down...that's how I always fixed mine....just don't turn it to far and then stall in traffic

never had the problem once DD installed my new stator and R/R though...so if you want a temp fix...adjust ur idle screw after it's up around 3000 rpm...if u want it to really go away...check what the others have suggested.

I would just sit on my bike and raise my hands as an orchestra conductor would as it revs up higher hahaha then shrug my shoulders at anyone watching.

Please do not just adjust the idle down when it revs up to 3000. When this happens are you moving your handle bars back and forth? When you rev the bike and then release the throttle does it come back down quick or slow? Have you had any service done lately? If you want pm me and we can go over a few things.
