PC3 USB is the connection type, mine is serial. The R means it can adjust the ignition timing. The 3 means its the newest generation of power commanders

brooks is my hero.

ok so then this should be true

PCIII - serial, slow data transfer
PCIIIusb - usb, fast data transfer
PCIIIr - probably usb, fast data transfer and it can adjust ingnition timing.

if your short on $$ and don't care about speed the PCIII should be adequate.

now. what does adjusting the ignition timing do?

PC3 with the serial connection is plenty fast, those maps that are available for download are pretty small. Its really neat to watch your bike working when you have it hooked up to the power commander and a laptop. When I first did mine, I had the laptop going and it was done downloading to the PCIII in just seconds.

Ignition timing has to do with the retard/ advance of the spark . The PC3 is plenty for remapping your fuel/air system. No need to mess with the ignition. The map I downloaded was specific for my exhaust, thats one reason I chose to get it. Full Hindle Race Highmount system. I like when it pops and a flame comes out when I'm engine breaking to 4k. It also does it when down shifing and it hits 4k.

Or you could just look at the site!

http://www.powercommander.com/featversions.shtml

And, no, PCIIIr is not USB. PCIIIUSB is designed to allow for expansion to add the "r" feature in the future.

You're too funny Ed! Took me 2 seconds to find it!

Technically, the features of a product should be listed with the product, as these were, and the FAQ should be for, well, Frequently Asked Questions. When you layout the features with the product, you don't get inane questions like yours .

ok dave. I was trying to get more ppl to talk about Power Commanders, their uses, experiences with...et al .....since Im sure other ppl (who are looking into exhausts) will probably have these types of questions.

I guess instead of posting up questions about products and people's experiences, I'll just download the PDF spec sheets and RTFM.
