Looking trough a turn - January 12, 2007, 10:41 AM

This is one of the guys I used to race in bmx. Hes on camber looking at the the next thing to attack. Which would be a camel back jump about 40 feet away. Look at his eyes and where they are pointed. That is one of the secrets of speed.

For road riding or racing you want your head as level as possible while looking though the turn.

Jim...just so you know I'm going to hunt you down this year on your road bike...

You've dodged me long enough...now I'm coming after you!

BTW...I agree...road bikes are similar to motorcycles where you want the line with the least amount of lean angle and you want to look through the turn EXCEPT with a road bike you actually keep your body over the frame of the bike...you don't want to lean on a road bike or try to hang off or throw your uppper body over to the inside of the turn because you don't have a suspension so the trick to fast cornering is your line and how quickly you can turn in and set your exit line. It's hard to describe but the basics are to weigh the outside pedal and try to keep the bike as upright as possible...leaning too far into a turn can land you on your arse quickly. Of course as anything there are many other factors that come into play and may change your position and line as well...

Well I meant road motorcycles not bicycles but I can see the confusion because the original post is of BMX.

He's looking like he should, with BMX its a little more important to balance lean since you aren't under any hard acceleration. That's why his body is all leaned out... good way to lose teeth, BMXing.
