Right hand turns - July 20, 2009, 11:25 AM

Why is it so much harder for me to make right hand turns? I'm right handed, but I really only feel comfortable leaning when I make left turns. When I go left my head is where the mirror is, shoulders out, tits on the tank, everything feels right and I can turn way sharper going left because of this. Now when I try and go right, I don't even like having half a cheek on the seat because I feel like I'm gonna fall off, and my turns are awful. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I have a problem with left handed turns and i'm right handed. I want to cut the corner for some reason, crossing the line.

My theory is that most right-hand turns on the backroads are somewhat blind.
You can usually see through left-hand turns.
There is also the factor of body-position. Whn hanging off to the right you really need to emphasize "screwdriver hands".

It's actually equilibrium susceptibility that you are suffering from as do many. The fluid in your ears tickles little hairs that your brain interprets as tipping in order to keep you bipedal. The only way to overcome it is to make countless right hand leaners at various speeds to retrain your brain that it's ok and you won't fall.

i FEEL you on that....its not necessarily shape turns at lights that was getting me, it was riding a twistie to the right....but i went out to skyline this weekend, and fortunately i got that problem out the way...

one of my folks told me that you have to get comfortable with it...then i made a much better line and dove into my right corners like i do my lefts....

Kidding aside I had the same problems, expecially when taking a right turn going downhill, it goes away after a bit.

+1 and make sure your right tit isn't bigger than the left j/k...what Steve said is IMO 100% spot on though. A lot of riders keep their wrist straight so when you lean it forces your hand downwards and that limits movement. Take your time and slow down until you figure out what works for you.
