Exclamation New 2012 Honda Fireblade (CBR 1000) pictures leaked - August 18, 2011, 01:23 PM

New 2012 Honda Fireblade pictures leaked - | Motorbike reviews | Latest Bike Videos | MCN

These are the first photos of Honda’s 2012 Fireblade. Besides the new angular styling, the bike has Big Piston Forks, new rear suspension, new clocks and lightweight wheels.
Those hoping for a V4 will be disappointed, as the engine appears almost identical to this year’s model. Also, there are no signs of any traction control – the switchgear has no extra buttons and the new dash has nothing to indicate there are any S1000RR-rivalling electronics.
The bike in the photos does not have any wheel speed sensor rings, so it seems Honda will continue to give customers the option to do without ABS.
The photos were posted on Honda’s Hong Kong Facebook page, but have now been taken down.
More news as we get it.

In 2012, the Honda Fireblade or, as we colonials like to call it, a Honda CBR with some big numbers and a couple Rs, turns 20. Time to celebrate, right? Sure, if you can call the relatively minor facelift seen here celebrating. Like any once-great, currently less-than-competitive beauty queen, it’s simply time for a little nip and tuck. For the 2012 Honda CBR1000RR, that means new headlights, new clocks, new suspension and apparently not much else

Perhaps most worrying is the shot of the dash performing its startup routine in the video. Check out this screen cap. See any sign of a traction control component? Us neither. Nor are their sensor rings on the front wheel (ABS is optional on the current model).
That lack of TC is indicative of how hard this new Honda is going to find it to compete in the swollen liter bike market. The BMW S1000RR, Aprilia RSV4, MV Agusta F4, Kawasaki ZX-10R and Ducati 1199 all use it, effectively making it the liter bike equivalent of those “you have to be this tall to ride this ride” signs. All those bikes also make substantially more power than the 175bhp Honda. Most notably, the ZX-10R, to which the Honda will likely be similar in price, makes 197bhp and weighs 26lbs less than the current ‘Blade.
Even giving Honda the benefit of the doubt and assuming a slight power increase and slight drop in weight from its current 210kg (wet) figure, it’s likely still not going to be in the same ballpark as these competitors. Like the current model, we’re sure it’ll be a great motorcycle, but headline power figures, new technology and mechanical distinction sell liter bikes.
In the absence of headline grabbing power, unprecedented light weight or even a similar TC system to its competitors, we struggle to see what unique selling point this new CBR hopes to capitalize on. It’s not as if Honda can still fall back on its traditional ease-of-use and perceived quality as it did in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, the S1000RR already has that accessibility and perception sewn up.
20 years ago, Tadao Baba reinvented the superbike by combining open-class power with supersport weight. Basically it was a 600 with a 900cc engine. Compared to its contemporary competitors, this new CBR does neither, it’s heavier and less powerful. Where’s the beef, Honda?

This is what all the manufactures need to do right now with hard times...
message the big bikes they have. Mild face lift..update some components like the BPF, wheels etc... and to most its a totaly new bike and will dump there 08's to get the latest and greatest, while the OEM's only had to invest a little into the bikes.

Cheers honda...i love the face lift.

ps: the squid in me like the blue Fork Caps

should look awsome in race trime...

I wouldn't know what to do with the power and probably couldn't ride it more than an hour at a pop due to ergos, but damn... I'm digging the color scheme and the bike!

Might be time to get that Starbucks discount card.

• As a Honda fan I will say that the front end is getting chinky. They were ok in '07. The next gen stole from the 1098 headlights, now they are taking cues from mr. spock's ears.. not terribly sold on the new front end's look. They remind me of the huge headlights on an F4i or RC51. Everyone is switching to projector lamps! Didn't you get the memo HONDA?!?! It's losts its aggressive stance. It's got too tall a "forehead".
• The air ducts: meh... ok I guess.
• The all digital dash is SICK! I love it!..
• I have a 2007 1000RR. The tail on it is nice and wide and flat.. The preceeding models keep shrinking the tail into little more than a pig tail. this is no different. I like some "ass" on a bike.
• Nobody ever likes the OEM fat & stubby side exhausts, why perpetuate it? Me no likey.
• What? No more HESD (Electronic Steering Damper)?
• They cover the engine casing with fairings, then they remove, then they cover again...
• I'm a fan of the HRC badging though

I'm maybe 65% sold on the new Honda. The extra 15% over the fence is because I love Hondas regardless..

LOL!
as a devout Honda man I can't help but be! It's like you always want your kids to exceed in life but sometimes they just do things that make you say "WTF were you thinking?!".. You love them regardless..

that's becasue it has 08-09 GSXR600/11 GSXR1000 style upper fairing intake openings, 2011 GSXR600 forks, 2011 GSXR1000 brakes.......

and because you are a Suzuki man on the inside.

I thought the same thing, lots of suzuki styling cues. Damn suzukis feel too big though, I threw a leg over your race bikes in 08, felt like I was sitting in a recumbent bike compared to my 600rr or the r6 i'd ridden

I've always like the Fireblades, but they ruined one of the things I liked about the previous designs; the fact that it had a single color paint job with no graphics. It made it look really stream-lined and mean. I don't like the red and blue accent stuff on here, but otherwise, it's a dope bike.
