Bret and I were talking about this - did Honda miss out by not making a V5 literbike?

Both of us would have sold whatever we are riding and got in line if Honda made a V5 instead of making the I4 CBR1000. I think they could have charged more money and still the dealers would have made a premium on each one sold.

And if they wanted to make even more money, offer a Respol replica!

I think they be more likely to make a V-4 based on the V-5. V-4s are already really expensive to build, a V-5 even more so.

Suzuki and Ducati both went with V-4s in MotoGP. Maybe they'll make a street version.

Whoever makes a V-4/5 literbike first will get my money.

anyone know the hp and tq ratings on these V bikes.....I mean for 4 wheeled vehicles inline engines create more tq than the V, hence your big rigs, merc's, audi, and ford using inline 6 and 8's .....wouldnt a or is the V shape itself add for less space thus making the bike lighter and easier to ride? Just a few questions and wonder's lol

I think Vee engines produce more torque for the same displacement than inline engines. It's late, and I'm not curious enough to go hunting for stats.

With the same # of cylinders, Vee engines are:
- not as long as inline (the offset cylinders provide a shorter crankshaft)
- wider than inline (due to the Vee shape)
- heavier than inline (larger block, double the cams & cam chains)

Last year when the CBR1000RR spy photos were released, I posted my next bike purchase is a V-5. In the meantime, I'm setting my sights on an SV650 play bike.

Honda should production build the V-5.

pending insurance outcome...I might be selling my 650 within the next year.....but probly too new to be a "play bike" lol
