And the project begins ..... - September 27, 2007, 07:12 AM

Well after 30,000 miles of some damn good riding and 3 mishaps I'd say this bike owes me nothing. But I do owe it a lot so the project begins :

The beast before!! She did look original!

On to the problem ... something is wrong with the motor so .......

By the way dropping the motor on a 954 is A BITCH .... the swing arm is connected to shock mount with also doubles as the bottom motor mounts. It took 3 of us to get it out without hurting the motor or the bike!

I was having an issue with the bike "surging" on me once I got into the power band and again at really high RPM's. It would also false neutral on me at random.

So the motor is out and the cases are split. Turns out I have 3 total problems. 2 are wear and tear and 1 is a issue.

1) The oil pump chain is very loose. Hence the sound I would hear when the bike was at idle. Wear and tear and an easy cheap fix.

2) The cylinders have some scaring on all 4 of them. Nothing huge or enough to cause a compression leak. Wear and tear .... shit happens after 30,000 miles of hard riding right!?

3) The transmission appeared to be in perfct condition. Yeah .. not so much. Once I had the tranny out and pulled the gears off the shaft the problem became obvious ... I managed to strip off the inner holds on just about all of them. (I'll have pictures of all of this today).

Stay tunned kids ...... first we fix ... then we MODIFY!!

God Speed Jeff! You'll never be forgotten.

It'd be nice to be so handy. When something is wrong with my bike I get it and a condom to the dealer.

All the parts came in the work began!!

Got the motor put back together in a snap after about a day of prep work but getting it into the bike was a ROYAL PAIN IN THE ASS!! Took 4 of us to get manuver the bike, motor and swing arm into place and line the mounting bolts up.

The mess!!

More mess!!

AAANNNNDDD still more mess!!!

Stay tuned .... more to follow!

Prime condition to fighta' it

ALL MY HEROES ARE RUSSIAN...GO CAPS!

Well you see, Norm, itís like thisÖA herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.-Cliff Claven

Looks good bro.

You do anything special to the parts or just a rebuild?

Can't choose between the R1 and the 10R so I am keeping both but settled with an 1198S when I came home

Keep it up!!!!!!!
