Big Twins Legal for new AMA classes

you're about a week behind the times. I'm glad to see lots of brands being welcomed into AMA racing, but of all the new brands, Buell is the last one I expect to win anything, with their history racing AMA I will be impressed if the bikes can actually finish races

Confusing the issue, since before you were ugly.

Of course ... put them in a class where they have a 40 HP advantage and a 40 torque advantage and maybe just maybe they will win. Put them in a class where the BEST V-TWIN on the market is limited to 848 cc and Buell can run 1125 cc. Seems fair doesn't it??? Not that any of this is Buells fault ... just sayin .. they could walk away with the championship and it still wouldnt amount to a single REAL win!!

This is excatly why DMG is a bunch of idiots. Lets make AMA like NASCAR. Pretty soon we'll all be talking about the "BOT" instead of the "COT".

God Speed Jeff! You'll never be forgotten.

BOOSTZX3 : in all seriousness head injuries ain't no joke. I've had around 10 concussions and now I ride a Buell Don't let it happen to you!

The japps have 4 cyilinders and the twins have 2 cylinders. I think they are just trying to make the sport more competetive so its not dominated by the brands that have the same boring type of engine. This is what creates inovation. personally I think Aprilla is going to be a surprise. We already saw BMW take 4 and 5th this year at daytona.

in what series that mattered? The Spanish race HD 1200 sportsters, doesn't mean that bike isn't a giant pile of shit on a racetrack. Buells get every caveat possible and now could potentially have a 40hp advantage like johnny pointed out...its still an ugly tub of old technology, liquid cooled rotax motor or not...in fact, thats even funnier, your "american" bike is now Austrian powered. The Japanese will spank the Buell, end of discussion, Erik Buell builds interesting sport bikes, not race bikes.

They did win at least one MotoST race with Higbee...

....competing against other not-so-great or barely tuned race bikes.

Right up the 1 hole.

Ironically, one side of the DMG- owned group that runs Moto-ST saw the 1125 fit to run against Aprillia Tuonos, SV1000's and Ducati 848's. The other side of the grour sees them fit to run against 600's. With weight minimum weight being enforced this year, it will be hard to make a Supersport-spec legal 600 that can compete that weighs under 375 (weight of the 1125 in STREET trim) and that makes 146+HP/80ftlbtrq STOCK. That bike only lives in my dreams.

Could make for interesting racing. Could also make for a blow-out and send the series spiralling further away from where they want to be as well.

....looks like I'll need to lose another 30 lbs. Awesome.

you are a horrific judge of people I find you to be ill-informed about racing and motorcycles in general. You repeatedly post about Buell's great achievements and amazing motorcycles, yet they have never been able to hold up against other racing motorcycles. The only races I know they do well in is CCS thunderbike and LW superbike classes, where they hold enormous advantage over everything else legal for the class. They failed miserably when they were gifted entries into AMA FX with obviously illegal motorcycles. Barring the Dark Dog Rally in Europe, what other successes have Buell motorcycles had?

thanks for the better news, Rick. The info I posted above for comparision was info I got from here:Big Twins Legal for new AMA classes, and I'm pretty sure that HP rating may be at the crank, not the wheel.

It will still be a pretty interesting stack up of numbers when it all washes out.

I find it ironic someone who has first hand experience with these bikes being raced, and rebuilding them only lists weight and power. Maybe he wants to say more but is holding back???
