Harley Davidson XR1200 by Storz Performance - March 10, 2010, 08:00 AM

This Harley Davidson special has been created by Storz Performance and is based on the XR1200.

Aside from its great looks, the main achievement here is the weight reduction with 15 kg being shaved off the original weight.
The XR1200 Storz Performance was completed by Steve Storz, the head of the company, and has been updated with new suspension, wheels, brakes, exhaust, handle bars and seat.

The wheel rims have a gold finish, the shock absorbers are in aluminium, and the spokes have a polished stainless steel finish.

The front upside-down fork is from Storz/Ceriani.
Storz has described his XR1200 as “Clubman Style”, meaning less dirt track looks than the original.

It’s certainly an eye-catching special with an impressive makeover. For more information on this and other Storz products, see the Storz Performance website.

For some reason the slower a bike is the more fun it becomes. Maybe its because we can slow down time while on one of these as mere mortals (compared to Rossi et al.)

REALLY?

I had a friend's out last fall all kitted out and it was a HOOT! Handled fine to me. It's a little slow to turn in but those wide bars make it easy to muscle over. But it tracks good even through the bumpy stuff. You just gotta watch dragging parts, which means you gotta use the "Steve McLaughlin Elbows Out Knee Down" style of riding, that's all

He's running his bike in the race series this season. V&H makes the approved race kit for these and they REALLY go. Talk about FUN! ANd cheap. You can pick up a low-miles unit for about 6 with careful shopping and buy the race kit and run a whole race series for another 6. Not only that, but you are all running pretty much equal bikes which means...............................

......you gotta learn to ride the thing.................

No offense meant...I was just really surprised. For what it is, it's a really fun bike. Nobody said it was gonna be a 'Busa killer...but after having had snail-like Sportsters that were uncomfortable, wallowed, scraped and snoozed, the Xr is comfy and acts like a real bike.....that's all. Wasn't questioning your knowledge...just surprised at the contempt, is all.

Some people only like 1 thing and just aren't accepting of anything else.
Is my gsxr a better bike then my harley? Perhaps to some but I have to go twice as fast to have fun on my gsxr because it does 80 so easy and handles so well.
Arguing with some is just pointless. They may know alot about bikes but they just seem to only think you can only have fun on 1 type of bike or the other. I personally haven't found a bike I didn't like to ride. Mopeds, dirt bikes, cafe style, cruisers, st's, sport, flat track etc they are just fun.
Now the only thing that bothers me a bit about that 1200 is with just a set of cams that bike can put out over 100hp. Why sell it so tame.

Fggt Craig and I have had many a discussion on these over heavy, under powered piles of race-joke.

I've accepted them. But not as sport bikes. This is some antique-with-every-technological-upgrade-we-can-possibly-provide race series. It's like comparing a SuMo race to a supersport race, except these bikes have no alternative viability like a motard.

SVs are fun to race. They're so slow you can just bang them around the track... Same thing... Except SVs would destroy these bikes.

I mean, i'd ride one, and probably enjoy it... but what I don't get is this:

With all the bullshit they sell, why don't they have one REAL sportbike?

Take that liquid cooled engine out of the vrod, tune it better, put it in a sportbike with a proper frame and other such stuff, and make a REAL FRIGGIN SPORTBIKE!

Jesus.

wow I guess I just ride sportbikes since I am on a sport bike site. You should know better. For what it is, is a heavy overpriced bike. Lose about 50 lbs and I would be impressed.

Nope didn't say that!

I've ridden them, they are fun bikes. Are they out there to compete with anything else? No and they weren't meant to.

There are alot of bike companies producing so called sport bikes that can't compete with the inline 4 japanese bikes but people still love them for their unique look, sound and engine feel and riding characteristics.

KTM, Ducati, MV Agusta etc etc aren't overpriced, underpowered or heavy?

This bike is no different. It has its little nitch.

Not looking for a busa killer. Why must people assume everyone on here rides a sport bike? I don't but did for years and not into it as much. I ride KTM's and love them for being different. I use to like Buell's but having to wrench on them as race bikes and more on the 1125 I cannot stand to think of them as sport bikes.

The XR is a niche bike for Harley owner's to feel like a flat tracker from the old day's. Take the XR and lose 50 lbs and then you have a bike. Just really tired of bikes that weigh so much being billed as sport bikes.

Hell I love my Duke 690 and thought why not get a SD990. Well I rode it and thought it was to heavy and under powered for what it was billed as. These bikes just weight to much. I want a 300 lb 80 hp bike for under 10 grand. The 690 SMC is close but needs some more HP. Right now KTM seams to get the light weight motorcycle idea. Harley has no clue how to do that.

Because you wouldn't buy it.

HD invests more than anything in its brand. The image and marketing change required to 1) get a HD sport bike 'accepted' by the likes of us and more importantly 2) avoid any damage to their current buyer population would be insurmountable.

I'm pretty sure putting out a legit HD branded sport bike is not on their list..ever.
