mainly it's the oil change, which you can do yourself. filter $25. oil $100. labor $100/hr x1.5 and they always charge your for shop supplies $20. it's like going to eat at restaurants and being charged for fork/knives/napkins.

major service comes at 15K miles. $1000 to $1300 for parts and labor.

1198 = 7.5k valve check
1199 = 15k valve check.

1199 valve check = 14 hrs of labor.

1198 will be expensive but not that of the 1199. Best thing to do... Call the shops that actually do the work rather than getting internet wisdom.

This. They almost always need an adjustment. 7.5 is the Major service.

That's why I have two.

The 1198 11 engine is a 15k valve check though (Diavel, Multistrada & Monster 1200).

Yep, as Burn said give the shop a ring.. There are a lot of variables at play as well.. How hard you ride it being a big one.. If the bike spends a lot of time near redline, chances are it will need more than a bike that is ridden gentle. Simple physics there. LOL.

18,500 mile service interval here, on the "unreliable" Italian brand.
