<points at craig> 137bhp...assuming the same loss factor as the 1098 (146 at the wheel vs. 160 at the crank), thats 125hp...or...EXACTLY WHAT I SAID (and stock, I would estimate a gain of 5-7hp with full exhaust)

3kg lighter means a wet weight close to the 2007/2008 600's...

brakes of a 1098, weight of a 600, power of a 750...sounds perfect to me

Exactly...and it comes with most of the components of the 1098 so the suspension is pretty much set to race. Like you said...those brakes alone would buy you some time.

I wish I had the money to run an 848...sick bike!

The "other color" should be interesting. I hope it is what the article says it will be.

...must sell monster, convert 853 back to street bike...race 848...
or sell monster, race 853, ride 848 on street and then convert to race for 2009...or buy SV, race lightweight and 853 this year, get 848 for 09...

so many options, so many classes...

given that the current 600's are easily putting out 110hp stock (600RR), and supersport bieks are in the high teens, when is CCS gonna make the MW cc limit for liquid cooled twins 850cc? its been 800 FOREVER and it would enable 748/9's to have power to weight parity with the current 600s for those who race the older bikes

<points at Marc> dude, it's Raptors and Rockets, it'd be more believable if it said "woman gives birth to elephant baby" like Star or the National Enquirer. If it is true, it'd better be for the price the bike will cost. I'll happily continue to pass you on an I4 that was 1/2 the cost

didn't you swear up and down that they wouldn't make an 848 anyway? I'll take the trump card there buddy...WINNER

Confusing the issue, since before you were ugly.

Classes do have a HP limit...read over the rules for the exact details. However, CCS level it's not the bike...but the rider. Once you get up to the ASRA/AMA...WERA National level...the equipment is going to help but it still boils down to the rider.

Last round of ASRA at Summit the back markers were cutting 18's the lead riders were running 13's...I don't care what bike or what you have done to it those guys are doing that with pure talent...something very few people can pull off.

As for the 848...it's not a myth...I spoke to a couple of dealerships and they've said Ducati is going to produce the 848.

The 848 is real. Have you seen the bottom of a 1098 fuel tank? It's marked for 1098, 1098S, 848, 848S or something like that. Why would you think that is?

I don't see how you are passing on an I4 when the HP numbers will be better than that of similiarly weighted 600cc bikes in the I4 class.

higher cornerspeed + on the throttle out of the corner sooner = better drive, makes up for HP loss. I passed lots of 750's throughout the season. It was really just digging at Marc since he's a motorhead and I keep trying to pound into his skull that more power doesn't equal faster
