Ducati To Limit Desmosedici RR Production Run To 1500 Units - October 11, 2007, 03:31 PM

DUCATI DESMOSEDICI RR TOTAL PRODUCTION RUN LIMITED

Cupertino, Ca (11 October 2007) - The Desmosedici RR – the ultimate expression of Ducati Corse’s racing experience and technology transferred to a road bike – has become the new benchmark for performance, components and style for the entire sector.

Since the RR’s launch in June 2006 on the eve of the Italian GP at Mugello and the possibility to reserve the bike in Ducati Stores throughout the world, the hundreds of requests received mean that the bike has become an immediate commercial success. Production of the first true MotoGP replica will begin in a few days time.

Never before has so much expectation surrounded a bike destined for road use. The RR is an exclusive and esoteric product that also deserves some sort of safeguard for those enthusiasts who have ordered it.

Following the recent victory of the world Moto GP title, and with requests continuing to pour in from the dealer network in excess of the 1250 orders already received, Ducati has decided to limit and number the total of Desmosedici RRs produced in the Borgo Panigale factory to 1500.

Once again, Ducati wishes to reward the trust and loyalty of all those customers who made an early reservation and who can now see the value of their purchase increase even before collecting it from their dealer.

At this point, with very few bikes still available, anyone who is still undecided is advised to hurry, as Ducati expects to bring an end to reservations soon.

Production will begin in the second fortnight of the month of October 2007 and, as promised, Ducati will give delivery priority to the approximately 500 owners of the 999R who have ordered the Desmosedici RR. For the remaining reservations, Ducati guarantees the delivery of the entire production run by the end of 2008.

the first 750 were about $65 IIRC, now they are $75 ish...though, the first 500 go to people who already own 999R's when they put the $ down...

um, why would they be on the list as the value just shit? first off, this is a good thing, originally ducati stated that they would build as many as they got money for. Now, its very limited, 1500 is not that big of a number worldwide (think R7). The fixed number basically secures the value for the forseeable future. This bike will be the 2 wheel equivalent of the McLaren...it will not really depreciate...unless there is a newer version that comes out, or ducati starts making a 1000cc V-4 street bike that is close in comparison.

basically, once the 1500 are sold, good luck paying less than 100k for a "used" one

I highly doubt ducati would support in any way a AMA level team using it, as it would invalidate their reasoning for lobbying a displacement increase...true, a privateer could do it, but I would bet they would be strongly discouraged by ducati

as far as a low level racer...if they have the bucks to potentially destroy the bike...I doubt there would be much of a issue from DNA...as while AMA teams ahve the money to buy one or more RR's, their primary costs are support...which DNA could easily withold, to encourage them to run 1098's (if legal). For low level, with that bike, it would be most likely a rich person, doing it for shits and giggles, in which case, ducati would likely not have to worry about a high demand for RR's for club racing.

regardless, I want to see one on a track...prefably from behind the windscreen with my ass on the seat...anyone want to loan me 75k?
