Ducati Monster 796 - April 20, 2010, 11:38 AM

Duc throws out another monster - with the sweet 796 (which is actually an 803cc engine). It has 87 hp and weighs just 167 kg, dry.

Updates include:new ergonomic design,a wet slipper clutch and the same characteristic red trellis frame you know from current Monsters. ABS is available as an optional extra.

In addition to the classic white, red and black, the Monster 796 will also be available in colors such as these:

Ahhhh... the 796 Monster... Single sided swingarm goodness, reshaped seat (apparently some complained that you slid into the tank before .. lol!) Sweet motor, and light weight.. did I mention it was light? As far as the colors and schemes go, Ducati wanted to help show how easy it is to change them out.. 15 mins and you have a whole new looking bike.. Try that on something else. The biggest deal right now is the fact that you get one of those kits for free is you buy the 1100 or 1100S monster. If you like the old stuff, then you will like the kits.. all but the solids and the Corsa are retro themed kits...

This upsets me. I just got my 696 last winter, but I would have gotten this bike instead had it come out sooner. I didn't want the power of the 1100, but I wouldn't have minded a bit of extra power and the single-sided swingarm cause it's the hotness.

On the flip side, I bought slightly used and saved a bunch of money, so I probably wouldn't have been willing to drop the extra cake. I will be envious when I see one though.

Oh yeah, and the stock 696 seat is like getting sucker punched in the nutsack over bumps.

It really is awful. I call it Monster Mash.

We should design a nutsack saver thing as an accessory. We'd make some dough. I'm thinking something simple... like self-adhesive foam bumpers.

On the 696 and 1100 the seat can be a bit..... "uncomfortable" to the male gender..BUT if you look closely at the 796 seat, it is completely reshaped to lose the "slope" of the other seats...

Oh yeah, that purple color is not a stock option... its an accessory kit along with the other schemes.. the 796 comes with white, black, or red.

I wonder if the 796 seat fits the 696. The touring saddle helps, but it adds too much height to the ride.

You know?.. the more I look at the 796, the more it has exactly what I want to mod on my 696. For example, the black rearsets, black heat shields, etc. I wonder if these bits are interchangeable?

Chad?

I'm going to purchase the touring seat myself. I don't think I would have a problem with a little added height either. The advantage of the touring seat compared to the 796 seat is that it is probably more comfortable.

As far as the black pieces on the 796, it would be cheaper to just powdercoat the pieces you have now than to buy new ones. I plan on doing it myself very soon. You can take a look at mine when I'm finished if you like.

I never understood why anybody would go anything less than the full gamut on a Monster. I realize it's a personal opinion, but I'd want the biggest lump they have to offer at any given time. I'd want the biggest rumble, the most torque, and the most of everything else on that bike.
