New Duc to be Called Ducati Diavel - August 25, 2010, 09:20 AM

remember that mega monster cruiser thing?

They're calling it WHAT?! Mega Monster becomes Ducati Diavel

The new Ducati model which has so far been dubbed the Vyper and Mega Monster, will in fact be called the Ducati Diavel, according to MCN. And no, we don’t like the name. Where you put the accent for a start, we’re not clear (DiAvel, DiavEl…?). Apparently the name is from the Bologna dialect and obviously means ‘devil’.

So far Ducati has registered the name not just for its new muscle bike, but also the full accessories and clothing range that will appear with the new motorcycle. After all, no-one expects Ducati to sell just bikes these days, do they? The name might work well in Italy, but we have our doubts about it catching on in the English-speaking world.

But it might all come down to just how good the bike itself is. Designed to be a kind of Ducati cruiser, so far we know that it will possibly be equipped with the Testastretta 11° engine currently being used on the Multistrada 1200 S. We could also get a range of technology including ride by wire, traction control and ABS. Will it all save the name…?

that would be Diavolo, Italian dialects are not written so perhaps why they are having trouble naming it.

Pulled this from an Italian blog, it's Bolognese dialect...and the core Italians don't like it

hfl:

Back when the Ducati Diavel was still a secret and its godawful name hadn’t been confirmed, several custom builders were commissioned to build bikes based on it. The idea was that the custom cruisers would inform a range of official Diavel accessories and one bike would be chosen to travel the show circuit, showing off the bike’s custom possibilities. These photos, first published by Ducati News Today, show Roland Sands Design’s pitch. Word is, it wasn’t popular with Ducati so won’t be making the show rounds, but a couple of the parts you see here will be available as official accessories.
Over the standard Diaval, RSD added a whole bunch of amorphous plastic cladding, diluting the bike’s purposeful shape and likely serving as the reason Ducati went with something else. We can also spot a superbike-sized swingarm, RSD frame sliders, an Ohlins shock (or at least one wearing an Ohlins reservoir, RSD footpegs and large-diameter handelbar grips. The USD forks and radial Brembos will be fitted to the stock bike and these pictures also give you a good view of the steel trellis frame and 150bhp Testastretta 11º engine.
These wheels, or ones like them, appear to have been carried over to the production bike, as evidenced by all the Diavel spy photos so far.

Yeah, not a fan of Roland's concept at all. Too cluttered or my tastes.

They should name it "El'turdablo"

roughly translated - steaming lump of shit

I'm sure it's a sweet with loads of great technology... I just do not like the look of it one bit.

I like it a lot. Until this I've always toyed with the idea of getting a cruiser but either they're big lumps of shit (harley), or have power but lack any decent handling and are fat and overdone looking with way too much ridiculous chrome. I couldn't afford it now, but I'll be watching the used market for one of these several years from now.

ETA: I should say that i dont love what RS did completely, but I can see the bike behind it and love that for sure.

Confusing the issue, since before you were ugly.

Woody: i'd probably bang her if she didn't look like a man

spud: yeah, i was checking out dicks
