Stupid comparison question. Xdiavel s vs. 959 panigale - May 14, 2016, 03:13 PM

Been crushing hard on these two bikes. Love the look of the 959 and having owned an 1198 for a while, it feels to me comfortable for a sport bike. I love the reviews and (I think) I'd love the laid back cruiser feel and pace of an xdiavel.

Anyone besides fitz make the transition to a cruiser from a sport bike? Your initial take away from the experience?. Did you regret it?

Side note - I have no back problems, nor did I get uncomfortable riding the 1198 for long periods, minus the killer heat from the exhaust on a really hot day.

959 just looks like another sportbike to me. XDiavel looks amazing. Just watched a review on it and it looks like it could actually handle pretty well for its size.

Impressed with the Diavels performance.

Not impressed with its aesthetics.

Go and see the xdiavel in person. It's not a cruiser although it's dubbed as one. It would make a great transition bike if that's the stage of riding you've come to.

<3 my Diavel. Not the X, but it's a bit sportier.

That's where I'm currently at.

ShiftTech's Xdiavel S. This helped some. BST rims cut 17lbs and the exhaust swap shed some good weight also. Both IMO look very nice.

Sat on the 959 and Xdiavel S. Sat on the Xdiavel for a while. Sat on the 959 for sub 60 seconds. Any longer I'd of bought it right then and there. I literally got goosebumps. The more I consider this the more I just want to buy both. However buying both new doesn't make financial sense. I can always wait and pick one up used down the road possibly. Then I'd just need to figure out which one I want first and when, lol.

On the off chance life happens and I am stuck with only one bike I was curious what that transition looked like from sport to cruiser based off others experience and if they regretted it.

I went to the multistrada from a literbike and I didn't regret it one bit because the power was still there with added comfort. And harassment by law enforcement literally diminished. I still have a supersport to play around with at the track so I can get my rocks off if I need to. Practically speaking unless you live in very specific parts of the country (ie SoCal), a supersport is way overkill for the streets and is uncomfortable passed a certain age. In any case, I don't think you will be unhappy with either bike but might always say what if in the back of your mind regardless of your choice.

Cutting 17 lbs from BSTs is amazing. I shaved about 12 from the zx12.

Expect for that Diavel to handle almost...normal?

Went to a Multi Pikes Peak from superbikes. Don't regret it although I want something a bit more aggressive like the 1290R. Sitting upright makes you practically invisible to cops. Only thing I dont like on the multi is how tall and heavy it feels moving it around. It was a toss up between the Multi and Diavel but I wanted luggage and passenger capacity.

Wow, just swapping the rims makes it look 10x better imo.

If you think you will end up both why not just research which is likely to depreciate more and buy that one used? Just a thought

//On a side note I find myself in a similar dilemma, sure as hell not selling my 1198s, but I may be looking to pickup something a little more standard and easier on the passenger so I am interested to see which direction you go That 959 sure does look nice tho... (not helpful I know haha)

They say it handles phenomenally stock. So I'd guess this would be just that much sweeter.

I agree with your earlier depreciation comment. My biggest thing is that the S version costs 23-24ish when its all said and done. BST wheels and that exhaust are well around the 4k mark. That puts me at almost 30k for a bike I don't find all that sexy to begin with.

As it sits right now I think I'd get the Diavel new and sit and wait for a 959 used at a good price. Ducati Super bikes are notorious for having low miles and someone else buying all that aftermarket goodness. I want the 959 model. Not "the latest cool version" of the Super bike. I figure 959's will flood the market soon enough just as the 899's are now and I will pick one up hardly touched with termis on it and pay 5k or so less. I think there will be more used 959s on the market then the Xdiavel S.

That's my flavor this week.

Sounds like you are headed down the right path and much of what you said above is also the reason I didn't buy the 1198s new, I ended up getting one with barely any miles and a ton of aftermarket goodies that was selling for barely more than stock bikes.
- The FULL Termis, Duc Race ECU and PC5 + 3 tunes were all paid for by the PO. All things I would have done but didn't have to come out of pocket for and that is just the start.

However I had to have the Trellis frame on my first Duc which was the reason for the 1198s Vs. the Panigale flavors

that said, 30k for a Diavel is tough too (keeping in mind I personally haven't ridden one yet)

I am still all over the place, looking at bikes from DRZs, KTMs, to Harley's and Indians, back to monsters, then multistradas and tigers... so I have no idea what will be next, but I am curious to see what you choose.
