World Superbikes: Troy Bayliss walks away from Ducati Hypermotard crash

World Superbike series leader, Troy Bayliss walked away from a crash onboard a Ducati Hypermotard last week.

Bayliss was riding Ducati’s 1100cc Supermoto for a photo shoot but didn’t even get to complete a single lap before crashing out and aggravating his elbow injury sustained during final qualifying at Phillip Island at the beginning of March.
The Australian was at the Arma di Taggia karting track in the northern Italian region of Liguria with Ducati for the photo shoot.

After the crash, which wrote off a brand new set of leathers and helmet he was breaking in for next weekend s Valencia World Superbike race, Troy Bayliss vowed to only ride his Xerox Ducati race bike in the future.

Speaking to MCN, Bayliss said: “Last week I had to go and do a photo shoot on a Hypermotard. I was riding on a really small go kart track, which is renowned for being slippery.

“I used to do a bit of Supermoto there but I don’t anymore because it’s too dangerous.
“I hopped on the Hypermotard, out I went and I didn’t even make one lap before I crashed.

“It was a brand new bike and I put it into the wall at the first left hander I got to. I ended up hurting my elbow a bit more but it’s all good now.
“My team boss Davide Tardozzi was there so we were able to have a good laugh about it.
“I had brand new leathers, helmet, boots, gloves as I thought it was a good chance to try and break them in.

“From now on I don’t think I’m going to ride any bike other than my race bike.”
