Exclamation 2011 ZX10R Hotbodies Undertail “Dark Smoke Translucent” Steath Fighter - April 14, 2011, 11:01 AM

2011 ZX10R Hotbodies Racing Undertail “Dark Smoke Translucent”

Hotbodies make two different undertails for the new 2011 ZX10R. One is a dark smoke translucent undertail and the other is a painted ABS Plastic undertail. Both undertails use the stock tail light, but the Gloss Painted undertail also comes with built in turn signals. I ordered both and will review the gloss black one once it comes in and decide which one I’m going to keep. It was a hard choice since both are good looking online.

The installation itself is straight forward and Hotbodies provide a video on the site that really cut down on the installation time. It also comes with a picture illustration book for installation tag relocator and it have built in tag light.

The tear down of the stock stuff was quick, and fast. The stock undertails have a lot of wasted space.

I know there are a lot of people who keep cursing Hotbodies quality, but I don’t think you can get too much better than what their current lines of products are. The undertail is flexible and has well thought out tabs that interlock with the stock equipment. One of the best benefits is the new tray you get. It has more real world usable space over the stocker (still tiny).

I ran across only two issues/snags.

Issue #1.
The new inside tray holes were a little small. The bolts have lock tight and may account for the ultra tight fit through the holes, but I recommend using a Ľ inch drill bit to open the tray holes up some. It is a very tight fit and hard to get the screws in place. The little bit of extra hole space makes it better. I also recommend using a T-Handle allen wrench. Make sure to get the ones with a ball/rounded end so you can insert the screws at an angle. Trying to get the screws in took longer than any other part of this installation.

Issue #2
The top end of the inside tray hits the seat latch. I dremeled about 1/8th of an inch and about one inch down so the seat pops in with no hesitation. This is all minor and took a minute or two at most.

Issue #3
This is not really an issue, but more of a patience thing.
When you attached the stock painted sides, it will take a little time patience and technique to get it to fit in perfect. This is in part because of the way the stock parts interlock to each other. I have heard of people breaking tabs and undertails falling off. This is in part to not being patient. I did one side..got impatient and left it with huge gaps and not secure. Once I started on the right side it just clicks together better and faster. I went back to the left and use the same technique and the left side went on as if it was stock and only tock a second. Nice and tight. I am amazed at how well this piece is fitting, I was expecting it to be off, or not fit well.

This undertail gives the ZX10R what is missing…. The World Superbike Stealth Fighter Look. I can’t wait to try the other painted tail out. I ordered two because the smoke translucent was cheap ($139) and ready to ship. The Painted one is now ready and should be here in a week or so. Im not sure which one I will keep, but so far I am loving the Translucent and friends on my FB page are praising the look over stock.
This is a must have Mod for the Gen4’s ugly tail.

2011 ZX10R Stealth Fighter.... Undertail changes the whole profile of the bike...

Sexy...and now one of the things I liked least about this bike is fixed.

Yeah it looks really good. I like the AM understail a lot better than the stock and the position of the light is nice.

What do you value more? Life or Image?
