broke clutch cable, more problems?

broke clutch cable, more problems? - September 15, 2009, 07:56 PM

I broke the clutch cable today. bike was on first gear so i tried pushing the clutch level with my hand and push the bike but it wouldn't move. i ordered another cable but idk if the clutch is totally messed up. anyone else had this problem. do you thing i messed up something else?

UPDATE: the clutch leveler comes off. not sure if thats suppose to happen

I don't think that shaft is supposed to just pull out of the clutch cover. Me thinks there is more to it.

Well, assuming that the 10 and your 636 are close, what you are holding is the release shaft that came out of your clutch cover. It is not recommended to remove it unless necessary. There is an oil seal under there that is easy to damage if it is not pulled straight out. Hopefully, that is just a washer laying there in pic 2. The FSM indicates that the cover should be pulled off before removing the shaft, but you might be ok if you put it back in with the tab pointing to the rear of the bike. Then, rotate it clockwise to attach the cable.

thanks thats a relief. i just installed the new cable. bike works great. while waiting for the cable i also replaced my spark plugs. now waiting for my K&N airfilter.
