Have you tried it in gear with the kickstand up because mine will not start in any gear other than neutral if the stand is down.

I wouldn't recommend defeating the neutral lockout. It's for your safety.

I was looking at his bike the other night, and it won't start in gear, with kickstand up, and clutch pulled in. I've never known any bike to do this, didn't know if it was just the ZX-9 or if he has some kind of switch problem somewhere....

My bike will not start with the kickstand down in gear either. It will start in neutral with kickstand up or down. It will start with kickstand up and in gear with clutch pulled in.

Pretty sure that is a standard kaw thing man.

Wouldn't hurt to send a PM to SteveZX9 and ask him if his does the same thing. He knows a thing or two about bikes too!

you can try bypassing the neutral saftey switch and see if that is it if so just replace it. It is right at the top of the kickstand. unplug it and put a jumper from one side of it to the other. If it starts its an easy fix.

ps make sure its in nuetral or you will be picking your bike up and then replacing he switch....
