Kawasaki Ninja's - September 19, 2013, 12:43 PM

So, being a DIE HARD Suzuki (GSX-R) gal, how do you know the difference between a Kawi Ninja 250, 600... just by looking at it? The 250's are probably the easiest to tell because they look like bicycle tires on it, but where on the bike does it indicate what size it is?

Just curious.

250's have a totally different design than any other ninja. The 600r and 10rs usually look very similar except for whats hiding behind the fairings.

Now the new 300's look almost identical to the 600 and 10r's Which is the way it should of been the whole time

Should also add that the 10r's get the new design a few years ahead of the 600's. 2013 636 ninja looks the same as the 2011-13 10r

The 250 and the zx6 look totally different. It's not difficult to tell them apart. They also have stickers on them that let you know what they are. Maybe start there.

Well, I am getting ready to purchase a 2012 250 from a friend (for my son) and looking at it, I didn't see any indicators. I didn't see those stickers you are talking about. I have that on my GSX-R but didn't see it on the ninja. Hence me asking the question.

The new ZX-6Rs and ZX-10s look very different I think. I've got the new 636 and it looks very different from the new 1000

Easiest way to tell for me is the front end and tail section. Front end has a bigger Ram Air Intake on the 10 and the tail is more shallow in terms of how thick the passenger area is.

You can tell by the bars and how upright the seating position is on the 250s. Also, the 250 has a analog speedo. All the bigger ones have digital speedometers.

BUT, if you didn't have either and they weren't side by side, how would you know the difference?

I guess my question is, is there something that is OBVIOUS, to the amateur eye, that tells you what it is? Like I said, I didn't see any stickers. I wouldn't be asking if I had.

That makes sense. So, the 250's are the only ones with the analog? Hmmm, and the bicycle tires of course.

That helps. Thanks

I think the VIN on a 250 starts with EX250. Obviously you can't read that from a distance but if you are trying to figure out if the bike really is a 250, that will tell you.

Depends on the year I guess, but most of the kawi's will have either a "ZX-6R" or a "ZX-10R" on the mid-fairing where you would normally see the "GSX-R" on a Suzuki. Not sure why they don't label the 250 (or now the 300)

the 6 and the 10 will have clip-ons. The 250 will have the bolted raised grips.

Also 250/300 will have a single brake disk up front, where as the 600/636/1000 will all have dual disks.

Now I have to go look again. So, the 250 is now 300? Which means it's fuel injected?

No they are separate models. The 250 is carbureted, 300 is FI.
