ZX6r Owners: WTF is this? - July 13, 2011, 03:48 PM

As some of you know I bought a ZX6 to beat on. I'm getting ready to fit up the track plastic and this little mess falls out of the OEM body when I took it off:

What is is? I cant find anything in the wiring diagram that has three plugs with this pinning. Also, if you tracked the bike, what did you do with it? I have considered soldering longer wires to it and re pinning the plugs but don't really don't want to go through that.

No shit?!? That's a great place to stick it! I didn't even look at the ECU on the wiring because I figured they'd be smarter and put it somewhere safer. Thanks, man!

Good, thanks! Got a ton of stuff on order (fork internals, shock, brakes/ lines, etc), and still need to check the valve clearance. I terrorized my 'hood with her for a little bit before I started stripping stuff off

Agree with OneLowcubn its the ECU box, hide it somewhere away from a heat source, usually under the seat on the rear subframe.

Also, I have two boxes full of spare parts, mostly internals and what not for the engine, let me know if you need anything! And did you find out which damper you are going to purchase?

Lou, it is an 07.
Spyker, I may take you up on that. Not sure on the damper yet. All I have read is that it is a very stable chasis. I might wait to dump the $400 into that.
I re checked the wiring diagram, looked at the wire color codes and found it is not the ECU. That expensive little bugger is under the seat in the sub frame. It has a shit ton more wires than this guy. Lo and behold, what I have found is the "Relay Box". Yes, that is the official name KHI gave it. Within that magically square goodness are the relays for radiator fan, headlight, ECU power, fuel pump and starter.
I guess I miscounted the pins because it splits a page. I am going to modify the harness, but now I'm not so concerned about heat/ damage. If it does take a dump, I only need 3 of them and can rewire those things to individual relays for under $20. It is just a couple relays and some diodes, not rocket surgery

Should be under the seat next to the ECU

Let me know if you want all those spare engine parts, they are only taking up space, or Jonathan, let me know if you want them, since I know you have a Kwak as well

Yeah, I don't know why they put it there. The FSM does show that right side fairing as the location for it. Hope that engineer was fired!
Spyker, whatcha got? If I have to open her up to replace engine parts it will be replaced with performance parts (or just a new motor, LOL). If you have external parts I would love to take those off your hands.
