1k swap into K8 600 ?'s - February 10, 2009, 09:36 AM

Will either the 05-06 or the 07-08 1k motor bolt right in or will I have to make mounts for either one of them?

Other than that say I went with an 05-06. I would need the wiring harness, ecu, speedo and controls correct?

And if i went with an 07-08 could I use my existing harness?

Neither.... hmmm

I want a 1k motor. Right now I have a turbo 600 but the head lifted on me so I yanked the motor out and was going to say screw it and swap a 1k motor in.

Cost to modify isnt really the problem as me and my friend built my whole turbo kit so some mounts shouldnt be a problem. The swap is around 1500. And then I have to either fab some mounts or buy them. I heard somebody makes mounts but I cant find them. I just wasnt sure if they made mounts for the 05 and up 1k motors or if the newer motors even needed mounts to fit in a 600 frame.

Do you know if the 06 and 07 750 motors drop right into a 08 frame? If that works then I know alot of people have been dropping 1k motors into the 06-07 600 frames atleast in this area.

i dont think its a matter of the mounts i think its a matter of the 1000 engine is wider than a 600 frame, but i may be wrong....

Im almost positive that isnt the problem. But then again i could be wrong because I have never swapped it either. Do you know about the 06-07 750 motors fitting in the 08 frame and mounting up?

you may need to fab some mounting brackets for that....i am not sure if they have the same mounting points, they are different generation bikes so the frame is different....

Check the gsxr forums, I know on the kawi forums people discussed swaps and interchangeable parts.

No matter what you would def need ECU, Harness, spedo, controls, radiator.

Your best bet is to find some one with a 1000 and take measurements, more than likely you will need to make brackets, however Im willing to bet this would require massive amounts of fabbing and frame cutting.
