Cool another oldie in the garage - January 20, 2009, 03:35 PM

OK so it's not a sportbike, but buying old sh*t is fun. This one is really nice, a mostly original base model '79 GS1000. Single front disc, spoke wheels. Paint is excellent, chrome all shiny. Even the oem exhaust is still in great shape. I'll be taking this to Bike Week in March.

Ah, 1979. I was in college getting drunk 6 nights a week and trying unsuccessfully to get laid

That's nice. Reminds me of my old KZ650.

This reminds me that I have an uncle in Kansas with a couple old Hondas sitting in his barn. They've been parked there for a couple decades. Next time I'm visiting I'm gonna see what's going on with those.

Nice Bret!
Brings back memories.
My first new bike was an '82 GS1100E.
Scot is right...those were good motors.

Thumbs up January 23, 2009, 02:59 PM

I rode the big dog around for about 20 minutes this afternoon on a bogus plate, no insurance and plus I forgot my wallet. So I wasn't gone long, just a quick spin out to the airport. Big fun.

It needs new front brake pads and a good bleed job. The rear brake stops the bike better than the front. It rides surprisingly well. Heavy flywheel, I'm used to the modern bikes spinning up much quicker. You can lug the snot out of this motor in top gear, roll it on and it goes BWWWWAAAAAAAA and takes off. I'd imagine that an SV650 would walk it but that's not the point.

And tomorrow it gets cold again ........Big B doesn't do cold. Come on spring.
