Exhaust on an SV650 - September 26, 2007, 09:59 AM

So I've been thinking of a putting a new exhaust on the SV, the closest thing that i've seen that I like is for an R6, the SVRider site said this should work.

Thoughts?

I haven't seen the a scorpion for an SV.

I am a little worried this one will be super loud.

you will lose power with that one due to no back pressure...i works with the new R6 cause it has muffler/cat under the bike. u could just chop the stocker for a shorty look that wont cost you anything

you won't loose power removing your cat ( and if there was a loss it would be insignificant ), but it will cause the bike to idle a little choppy as the EFI can only compensate so much for the change. Don't worry so much about that, if you're going to buy a slip on just buy the one you like best. I fyou want more power don't bother with a slip-on and buy a full system with PC III or Powercard and have it mapped.

What I've done so far is the "Mufflerectomy" which i bit off of svrider and it made some difference.

Next on my list is definitely the Scorpion shorty - http://www.oneidasuzuki.com/store/pa...rs-suzuki.html
They were backordered last time I checked with them.

Here's a sample of the Scorpion's note, courtesy of Droo from svrider-

The other one is super loud, depending on how loud is super loud for you.

The sound from that one seems ok. Does the pipe have to extend so far back?

Yep, unless you cut it. Then your concern would be the mounting brackets.

backpressure does not increase peak power...lacking backpressure and losing midrange is indicative of too low of an exhaust velocity at that specific RPM point. A more restrictive exhaust will increase exhaust velocity at lower than peak flow, helping midrange--but will create backpressure at higher flows, reducing power. Backpressure is ALWAYS bad...BUT proper exhaust sizing for the flow range IS important (and will always result in off-design losses for other flow ranges...this is why exhaust valves are used to optimize at multiple points, but are removed on narrow rpm range racing machines)

What do you think are the chances I can mount it from the plate behind the pegs? I'm going to ger rid of the rear pegs, what if I can modify one to anchor the exhaust?

Does that seem crazy?

pick up the exhaust you want, we'll put it on and figure out how to make the propper exhaust hanger to keep it on there. i can fab it up and paint it in 30 min or so.
