Gladius introduced - January 27, 2009, 12:13 PM

Take the tried and tested SV block and put it in a Duc-ish naked frame with a hint of Aprilia Shiver - Gladius has arrived.

Will this spell the end of the SV?

2009 Gladius
MSRP: $6,899.00

2009 Suzuki Gladius: like an SV650 but cheaper

Targeted at new riders, the Suzuki Gladius is a based on the SV650,
but uses a Ducati Monster 1100-style cast aluminum/steel trellis hybrid frame and cheap running gear to keep the price down.
Suzuki intends the Gladius to be a stylish entry-level novice bike, but to us it looks too much like an androgynous Gilera DNA scooter.

Update: The Gladius will be available with optional ABS.

There's been a lot of sh*t talking about this bike on the svrider forum. It's apprently the replacement for the naked sv. I like it personally though. It looks like a monster. The ads are stupid though.

if it weren't for the fact that I had convinced myself that I DID NOT need a brand new 09, I would have seriously considered getting that blue hottness. I liked the one that I sat on at the motorcycle show.

ALL MY HEROES ARE RUSSIAN...GO CAPS!

Well you see, Norm, itís like thisÖA herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.-Cliff Claven

I think I would have to see/ride it in person to make a true judgement on it. I do like certain things about it though. I think I like the street triple better, but I don't really know what the price difference is either.

When I first saw this one the name totally killed it for me, lol. Reminded me of someones grandma or something... If I can get past that, it's really a sharp looking bike. I wouldn't mind having one in that weird green color.

If you chop that, you can no longer unlock the seat. The lock is way at the back of the fender.

It has potential, but it would need a lot of work. The plastics felt cheap and looked bad up close. You'd have to take them all off to make it look good in person. I'm 6' and the bike felt very small. The controls are far back and narrow (compared to my SVS). Would need aftermarket pegs too - get rid of the one piece per side layout.

I think if Nate had one of these to play with it could be awesome, but I wouldn't waste my money on it.
