Anyone ever notice theirs glow at around 3,000 rpms and above? Especially with the fast idle? I know lean means the most power but, this sounds like a bit too much? I mean RED HOT GLOW! Opinions? Should this be in the MD/VA/DC forum??? This normal for Suzuki?

If you have it on fast idle they are glowing because it is way too rich and the exhaust is still burning the un-burnt fuel in the header pipes. VERY BAD$$$$$$

Another question is why are you running it on fast idle at 3000 and above?
Warm up?

Only at warm up and when I throttle it up over 3k while looking, they begin to glow a dim red... I've seen this situation on high HP cars running lean to extract the most HP. Hmmmm..... wonder if anyone else's bike does this...

Sounds like that puppy is running lean. Not good. Have you done any mods like a pipe without a jet kit?

No new answers. I really don't wanna call Coleman's for tech advise... Anyone know a reputable shop for Suzukis? I did go riding today specifically to see if they would glow again and also to get my fix I figured the cold temps would make it run even leaner and I may ahve a chance on duplicating what happened in the garage. Got back and throttled up for a few but noticed nothing abnormal??? Maybe it was too cold? Gonna hit the phone Monday for more advise, thanks everyone!

My guess is it's running too rich. You don't need fast idle too long...just long enough so it will acccept throttle without stuttering. And my recommendation is to keep it close to 2 grand for the warm-up. I think un-burned fuel from being too rich is burning in the first few inches of your header pipes making them glow.
Easy to check...turn off the fast idle and see if it goes away.
Hope this helps...if you need anything I have some good connections at the Suzuki shop here in Winchester...

Mine does the EXCACT same thing.. I figured that it was just running rich cause the valves needed to adjusted but I had that done and it still does it. I have a 2002 gsxr600m and it has 16K on it and it runs purfectly except for that. I just make sure I use the choke for about 30 seconds and turn it off after that if I leave it on it will start to glow at when the temp guage hit's about 90. I just watch it.. I don't think that it's a real big problem unlless you just let it sit there at a high idle.I asked the people at colmans and they said it's running rich.. duhhh... Morons.. I also wonder if it's just a crappy header pipe.

I cant think of the guys name but he races I believe both gsxr600's and 1000's and is a mechanic at Cycle World in Baltimore, Im sure he would know if its normal. Call 410-636-0600. They should be able to help you out.

I'm guessing he no longer has that problem seeing as he sold the bike and bought a new R6. Even changed his ID to R6R(C) and all. Damn, we lost another one! :mad2:
