new paint (custom rattle can) - May 22, 2009, 02:39 AM

well I finally finished. 6 days later - for my first time - here is what I ended up with. Granted there are imperfections, but oddly enough - they all work.

2 rolls of painters tape

All Rattle Can:
primer white
matte black
glossy white
glossy deep blue
glossy red
hammered finish Gold (think cracked glass)
glossy clear coat protective enamel
everything got 3-4 coats

2 razor blades

sand paper:
80 grit
120 grit
320 grit
(my plastics were pretty beat)

few things learned:

- don't have the fan so close -the moving air can ripple ur paint
- when you go to buy enamel, shake the can first. Everything will come out clear (regardless of cap color) until you shake the can
- pinstripes are fuckin hard
- dremels are AWESOME
- to absolutely ensure no paint seeps under your painters tape lines, press firmly and pass over a few times with a hair dryer (but not close enough or hot enough to damage the existing paint)

for my first time, I am EXTREMELY pleased with the outcome. I also decided to keep the OEM black and blue decals that come on the bike from the manufacturer - they blend in perfectly.

FAQ:
Q. Where is the front fairing?
A. it's a fighter

Q. Where are the side fairings?
A. it's a fighter

Q. Did you mean to paint the Spanish flag on your bike?
A. hahaha no, but since I want a Spanish/latin chica - I have named her Adalina (Spanish/Italian for "little noble lady")

Q. Have you noticed your bike resembles Wonder Woman?
A. hahaah yes, and joke all you want - this IS my Wonder Woman cuz only a woman can go through what she has been through and still be kickin

Q. Is the tank done?
A. No. not yet. don't think I'm skilled enough for that. But the OEM paint scheme blue/white on the tank still kinda goes for the time being.

Q. What made you choose those colors?
A. Blue and gold are my highschool colors and I've always liked that color combo. I threw in the red as an accent color and to match my suit haha

Looks like you took a lot of time sanding those plastics. I like the color scheme. It's original. Get yourself a nice urethane clearcoat from an automotive store and spray it on with a real paint gun and an air compressor (with air filter). If you have or can borrow the air compressor the rest of the parts are cheap at Harbor Freight. A nice deep clear coat will give that puppy shine.

Good stuff man,
You need a naked chick on the the tank.

I've heard of a paint job where some chick was spread open right where the gas nozzle goes. Makes every fill entertaining

Just an idea.
