Help...My R1 engine sound video - August 12, 2011, 03:56 PM

Do you think I have a CCT issue? or is it the usual Yamatick?

It's any 08 with 5.5k miles and no exhaust mods except baffles that were changed about 4k miles ago.

+1 sounds normal to me. Did you ever get your rpm issue sorted out?

Sounds like an valve issue.

Its a yami. Comes standard with the Yami tick. Why don't you take it to RnR and have Rick take a listen. He'd be able to tell ya. Hopefully its nothing.

Oil level? let it warm up and see if it still makes a noise. My honda F4i sounds like that when cold.

Oil level is fine.

The problem is at low rpms(<4k) it hesitates real bad and chokes as if it is going to stop up until 4k. Then it is all good.

My question is if it's yamatick or CCT.

Could be...

It does sound different as if one cylinder is not firing or timing is off. R1 sounding almost like Ducati esp when I roll down/up to/from a stop sign/light.

Low RPM problem... Have you checked the throttle body balance?

Hopefully it's not the dreaded valve guide issue.
That problem was more prominent in 02/2007 engines but it has come up in a good amount of 08's IIRC.

Any follow-up on this issue? I've recently started noticing a ticking on my R6 around 5-6k RPM, throttle about 1/4 to 1/2 open. When I let off the throttle and pull clutch in to coast it goes away. It sounds like when you used to clip a baseball card to your bike so it would click against the spokes - seems to increase frequency with RPM. It's a fairly soft tick, that I barely hear it above normal engine noise, but I'm not very mechanically inclined and have no clue what a bad valve sounds like or a rattling flux capacitor feels like, so my diagnostic skills are non-existant.

Swapped the engine out so I don't have a deadline to deal with on fixing my engine. I plan to open engine and find the mystery (some day!).

Yours seems to be normal compared to mine. Will be happy to help out in person to take a look. PM as I may not look at this thread.

Thanks again for all who gave me input.

Buy a cheap 04-06 chassis and swap it in.
