Generally, the advice is to get something less powerful and beat up because you'll probably crash it and you want to lessen the financial and physical damage of doing so. Ninja 300, SV650, DRZ-400SM are generally better starter bikes than a race replica 600.

That said, lots of people do it and survive, just understand that there's a big difference between the power it's making at 4000rpm as opposed to 14,000rpm.

R6's are generally pretty reliable. Service records would be nice. I'd just check basic things like chain, tires, brakes, etc.

You should go see Harold, at Loudoun Motorsports. He will point you in the right direction. They have Ninja 300's, Honda 500's and a FZ8 at a really good price. They are all GREAT starter bikes.

Tell him Stacey sent ya

Dude has already had small bikes. See signature. And yes I realize they are dirt bikes, but hey that's good enough for some of the basics. Go for it brotha...I started on an R6 and it worked just fine. Especially the R6R is all top end so a little more room for error. Just respect the throttle and you'll be fine. Welcome!

You could join Throttle Control Motorcycl Club they will teach you how to control the throttle. The president calls his genitals the throttle.

R6 is nice, not as sexy as 09 and up but nice enough.

E che cazzo!

You'll be fine. I rode and raced MX for years and then bought an 07 600RR and wound up tracking that a lot. Then I dumped soprtbikes all together because they are gay and pointless 95% of the time and went for supermotos.

As an actual street bike, a supersport motorcycle is a terrible idea. I'd rather ride a naked bike with handlebars instead. Say like a Triumph 675 Street Triple, or a SV650N.

They are a hoot around Summit Point though.
