Surprisingly enough, it seems to be true... There is a thread on r6messagenet about it as well as a news thread:

http://www.motorcycledaily.com/01february06_redline.htm

r6mn thread:

http://www.r6messagenet.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=72702

search near the end.. they put them on the dyno and says they shut down around 15900.

Oops, sorry Yamaha!

They need to do this, if not legally then ethically... good for them, that's going to hurt.

Shrug, how many people do you think are actually going to return their bikes? I mean how many of them actually bought it for the claimed 17500 redline, and that was the only reason they bought it?

Methinks once it gets warmer people are just going to ride it and forget about it. The only ones that might give a crap about it are racers, but the bike still handles and produces the same output as what they claimed so I doubt anyone is going to make much of a stink about it.

Hey, its great for people trying to pick one up, though. They can just buy a used one with 20 miles on it because some can't brag that he redlines at 17.5 at starbucks. Nice!

I agree. I was looking at it more from the business aspect more than the performance aspect. They said the bike would do something it can't. They should offer a buyback... I'd only do it cause I favor the gixxer, if Zuki did this I'd still keep the bitch.

I know the RPM thing is true, but I doubt that letter is. If it is, whoever wrote it needs to be shot.

What kind of manufacturer would send out a letter in the middle of winter saying you have 30 days to tell us you don't want your bike, or "we will assume you have decided to keep and enjoy your motorcycle." Doesn't seem realistic. That and the signature looks fake, unless Dennis is a 12 year old girl!

Exactly...that extra rpm would be helpful but I doubt if the bike handles and performs as well as expected that it would be the determining factor for selling the bike!

Now, if the HP numbers were way off...or the suspension did not have the high/low speed compression or the handling wasn't improved... I could see people selling the bike back.

Guess we'll see...season will be starting soon so the feedback should start pouring in!
