TITLE 36 > Subtitle I > Part A > CHAPTER 3 > § 301

(a) Designation.— The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b) Conduct During Playing.— During a rendition of the national anthem— (1) when the flag is displayed— (A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart;
(B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and
(C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and

(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

How's that for a future president

I'm patriotic and feel the best kind of patriotism is the genuine, voluntary kind--not the forced, rank-and-file kind. I'm pretty sure there's no magical power achieved from placing your hand over your heart. Anyone can do that and most will, if you force them to. What's going inside his head is what counts. I've never heard him say anything that indicates a lack of respect for this country.

BTW, I'm republican so he probably ain't getting my vote no matter what.

The flag, anthem and what they represent command and DEMAND a certain amount of respect from the citizens of this country. No man or woman who can't even give the symbols of our country and what it STANDS FOR the PROPER CUSTOMS and COURTESIES deserves to be president.

Once again we focus on the little things. Let someone follow you around with a camera and tape your ever move when it comes to being an american. I am certain they will find a mistake somewhere. I personally believe He is the man for the job. Someone who is different and not the norm. With Ms. Cliton we are just getting a rerun of Pres. Clinton just like with mini-me Bush who is trying to finish his dad's wars.

Go for it, I'd be more than happy to take you up on that challenge. And I would never perform such a flagrantly disrespectful act toward America.

Bottom line: If he doesn't have the presence of mind to follow age-old customs expected of normal citizens, how could he possibly have the presence of mind to lead the most powerful nation on the planet.

He's vapor-ware, much like Kerry was in 2004.

Patriotism can be a deadly enemy of liberty.

You will notice that patriotism is not a word often repeated by the founding fathers, where liberty is consistently, and consciously repeated throughout.

Insignificant displays of posturing mean little to me, personally. Even the worst villian can have the appearance of respect.

Personally, I salute the men and women who have fought and died to protect the colors on that flag when I render my insignificant display of posturing.
