2010 macbook air vs 2011 macbook air? - December 9, 2011, 06:45 PM

How's it going? I am thinking about getting an 11 inch Macbook air. Is the new 2011 version much faster/better than then 2010 version? I was thinking about getting the 128GB, 4gb ram one. I can find the 2010 one for $300 less than the 2011 one, so I am trying to find reviews from ppl who have used them.

Thanks

The new sandy bridge macbook air is significantly faster than the 2010 version

That said, it depends on what you're gonna be doing with it. If you're just browsing/email/etc, the older one is probably fine

I've got a 2011 13" Air and its great for what I use it for - email, web, occasional movie when I'm travelling. I'd imagine the 11" being the same

This. Also equipped with thunderbolt port. That alone is worth the extra cash if you're eventually buying a capable drive.

Thunderbolt is pretty awesomesauce. There were some tests that MacWorld did on it that I honestly thought were typos when I read them

Also, the wife uses a 2010 13 for work and photography. It does a great job and we are just now getting to its limitations. In reality it would be fine if we didn't want dual full resolution monitors and the better graphics capability provided by a full size machine.

It will be replaced by a PC built around the New x79 chipset.

I really want to sell my old macbook and get one of these instead of an iPad or some other useless tablet.

I have a 2010 Macbook air and unless you are pushing it and I mean REALLY taxing the thing, I doubt you will see a real difference between the old and new. Save some money if you can.
