2013 Subaru BRZ - December 5, 2011, 06:48 AM

Yeah, yeah. I know it's a sportbike forum but there are car guys here too!
Anyway, Subaru's long awaited venture with Toyota has become reality. 2 seater (unless you are a midget), rear wheel drive, low and sporty. Plus.....the boxer! Unfortunately, rumor has it that in the states it will be a Scion . But unless Scion dumps the TC in favor of this, it makes little sense. Target price is about $24k which is in Miata territory and at an estimated 200 hp and 170lb- ft (that's 170 begining as low as 3000 rpm!) it may give Mazda a run. What are ya'lls thoughts?

It'll be more inline with the new Genesis coupes which carry the B11 turbo motors that are highly popular for modifications by the younger generation. It'll be the Suby version. It doesn't look special but it will be a fun toy for some youngens.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. My legacy isn't sporty but was cheap enough, WRX was megadouche sport and too much money. This thing sits perfectly in the middle

I just hope the back seats fold down

o wait nevermind, donno where I found that first pricing spec but it's wrong

"Subaru will initially offer the BRZ in two trim levels: Premium and Limited. The BRZ Premium will cost about the same as a base Impreza WRX and come standard with the aforementioned Torsen limited-slip diff, navigation, Bluetooth, iPod compatibility, and HID headlights. Subaru wasn't clear on pricing or features for the BRZ Limited, but it's safe to assume it will come standard with extras that are optional on the BRZ Premium, like the leather-Alcantara seats, foglights, dual-auto HVAC controls, keyless access, and pushbutton start.

This car will also have a Scion counterpart.
I just hope it looks as good as the Subi!

The car is not even remotely quick though...quite disappointing with a 0-60 time of almost 7 seconds. I was hoping the rumors of a 270-300hp motor were true but obviously they were not. There really is not much special about this car now. The numbers dont show any "wow" factor. Fun to drive...sure, but so is the Genisis that is already out and it also does 0-60 in under 6 seconds. That is a big difference. I have heard pricing is going to be closer to 30k than to 25k from the local Subaru dealer. For 30k it will suck, for 25k its still alot of money considering what it is.

Jesus nevermind, if the prices that the UK are getting are right then Subaru is out of its fucking mind....26-28,000 pounds.....that is $41,000-44,000. There is now way that can be right.....at least I hope not. Who in their right mind would buy that car over the STi for the same price or less?

Yea I noticed that, ball sacks. I don't have the luxury of being able to use RWD, too much snow for us

The STi starts at 33,000, or more than $51,000 in the UK. Those folks get hammered on VAT as well I believe.
None the less, I think it will be a mediocre sportscar. Until someone shoehorns a spool or a screw under the hood. But again, Mazda performance numbers are about the same. There are more Miata's out there than Chinamen.

Agree! For the guesstimated price, I find the regular WRX a better choice, for me that is.

yeh toyota is going to have its version under the scion brand as well as under lexus I believe as the ft86 or whatever they end up calling it. It's really said Subaru wouldnt shoehone a turbo version for itself. I dont think its worth the money at all but i feel the same about the miata so....yeh lol. FYI, new gen coupe is getting a 275hp version of its 4b11 that is sported in the Mitsu Evo X. Not sure how similar they are at this higher rating, the previos 215hp version didnt have any of the Evo's reinforced internals or spify turbo. But Hyundai is going to let this new rwd sub $30k entry one up it. id still spend less and get the new gencoupe.
