5 stolen KTM dirt bikes - January 17, 2013, 07:14 AM

Hey, gang.... a fellow VCHSS racer who lives just across the border in NC had his garage broken into and 5 KTMs were stolen. Info on the bikes is here:
The Virginia Championship Hare Scramble Series :: View topic - Got Cleaned Out Pretty Good, 5 Bikes Stolen in Wilson, NC...

Just wanted to put this out there in case the bikes end up in this area.

Not to thread jack, but thought this would be a decent question to ask..

Can you insure dirt bikes for theft ? I've talked to both my auto and home insurance before about insuring track bikes and both pointed at the other and said not me.... Wonder if there is any affordable way to insure your bikes?

Sucks that people who apparently knew this guy are the likely suspects. (shoot I'm updating my sig... no need to put out what I got..)

I've been told that your homeowners policy would cover the loss. I'm sure that varies from one policy and company to another though.

Might need extra riders on your policy to cover everything, especially if you have 5 bikes. I know my policy had a default limit on guns/jewelry up to $1000 or someething like that. I had to pay extra for $1000 increment increases to cover what I had.

This^^

Contact your homeowner's insurance company and ask for riders. I forget what ours is called, but basically it's designed to cover the expensive extras not covered by default. I think some might even break it down for guns, jewelry, electronics... yes it adds a little to your insurance costs, but only you know if it's worth the peace of mind.

Having been shafted on this by insurance once....

1. You can get fire & theft insurance. I know. I have my stuff insured.

2. If it's not for specific lawn maintenance and has an engine....then it isn't covered.

3. In your trailer....definitely needs a policy.

I had a quad stolen from a heavily locked trailer. Full homeowners on multiple properties. Insurance company just laughed and said it wasn't covered.

I want my baby back, baby back, baby back....Chileeeeee's bay back...

I posted it on our local HS&Enduro forum.

As for insurance, you're a fool if you don't have it. I've carried it on all my dirtbikes, right down to the TTR that cost me a whopping $12 a year.

I think the KTM is $36.

13 KTM 200 XC-W
15 KTM 350 XC-F

I might have a dirt bike problem.

yep - one can insure anything. Some HO policies will cover bikes in a garage as noted. But you could get a policy or rider to expand the coverage

- Throttle's on the right. So are the brakes. Good luck.
