Thumbs down 66 toll road - December 5, 2017, 03:21 PM

Yesterday morning...some were awaken to the brutality of the high price if you wanted to take 66 as a NON HOV driver.

Looks like rt 50 just blew up and 66 is empty lol.
they need to do a balance...

This reminds me of ICC 200... its 10 miles long connecting 270 to 95. the prices are not that high, but it is dead empty any day and all day.

click...

https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/l...461316083.html

I think the highest is $34.50

how much is a ticket using the HOV as a single driver?

if $25 its cheaper than paying he toll.

Motorcycles are free still on 495/95 lanes, I can't see them changing it for 66.

Except that HOV violations increase in price... So first one might be $25, but number 2 is like $75 or something.

Bull****. Government establishes a monopoly funded by our tax dollars and then uses a free market excuse for gouging "consumers."

This is not how free markets work. You can't take sole control of a vital resource by force and then play the "what the market will bear" game.

Bikes are free on 95/395/495/66 toll lanes anyway and always have been as far as I remember. No need to hide your plate.

The 66 tolls are different than those on 395/95 as you couldn't legally drive on them during rush hour without 2 people in your car even before the tolls were instituted. The toll is outrageous, but I don't see how it changes anyone's commute who wasn't already car pooling, unless there are just a lot of violators out there who are now getting slapped regularly by cameras and not infrequently by cops.

395/95 is bullshit since the lanes USED to be free to all during non-rush hour times.

495 is always bullshit since even HOV pays, unless they plan to convert them to free lanes once the expansion is paid for (how tolls should work anyway). Pretty sure that's not the plan though.

Point of order:
5 years ago there was only 1-toll road in the region. The Dulles Greenway.
Now there are FOUR (MD200 - 495/395 - 66 - Greenway) with D.C. playing with the idea of Congestion Charging / Tolls for non-DC residents.
This is not a good trend.

The problem is that they bumped the toll times by an hour. I leave my house to be downtown at 6am to avoid traffic and HOV. Now, I am supposed to pay for the same road I travelled on for free last week. HOV times are the same, but you have to pay for the hour before they go into effect.

Is the goal to make money or discourage anything smaller than a vanpool?
