Angry After Market Apple Lightning Cables: What brand works? - February 8, 2018, 11:03 PM

My GF got some after market lightning cables when she upgraded a while ago. To her surprise the shit stop working down the line...like all the chinese cables. Then it was said that apple put out an update to keep you from buying after market Lightning cables.

Today...

Im a Galaxy man who have no problem with 40ft $2 chinese cables.
But I have a iPhone 6 for work and only one cable.
and I just picked up a iPod Touch 7th gen with lightning cable to replace my ipod classic.

My one of my real apple cables cost me $30....4 one cable.
I'm going to need a variety of lightning cables..

Have any of you brought from a certain place like ebay that was priced good and work still?

there is no way to tell. the best thing you can do is not update your phone honestly. I have old phones i use sometimes and they go through periods of cables not working, and then they work again. its weird as fuck. i feel like they do sweeps on older stuff, and then whatever they are pushing to your device gets lost after you fill up all your caches and memory, because they do it for a while when i reboot them, but then it stops happening completely. i dunno though.

Amazon Basics (their house brand) are excellent.

Apple has an accessories approval 'chip' inside the connector called MFI certification. 3rd party peripheral and cable makers need to get the MFI chip & approval from Apple to be compliant.
Cheapy cables and accessories that bypass Apple will often fail after about a year. Either the quality is substandard (often the case) or the Apple device will begin to reject it.

The Lightning connector that iPhones, iPods and iPads have been using since 2012 is a proprietary connector created by Apple. Inside each lightning connector is a tiny authentication chip that tells your device it’s Apple MFI Certified. This is important because non-certified, or knock-off, lightning cables can be very dangerous to your device. (You may have noticed a warning message on your phone when a non-MFI cable was detected.) These cables can often times get extremely hot, cause damage to your phone, and even render it completely fried and useless. Every

I have been using Anker cables for years never had an issue, both Apple and any other USB.

You guys are fantastic.

I was hesitant at first to make this post. I did not think I was going to get a solid response.

I hate that apple do all this shit.

I had no idea about the MFI also.

Im going to need to buy some 30pin iPod to lightning cable adapters for vehicles and a few house iPod alarm clock speakers I use.

Also some home and work cables.

Did not want to spend over $150 on cables at the apple store.

.
A few reasons. When lightning was introduced ts data transfer speed was faster than USB 2.0 and 3.0.

But, Apple also did it because Lighting unlike USB, it's cable wasn't just for charging & data transfer.

It is also capable of carrying HD Video (w/HDMI or VGA adapter) & Audio signal as well (why they could eliminate the 3.5mm headphone jack).

No, you can do both. You can charge and play audio / video. It really was quite advanced I/O connectivity when it was introduced. Still is in some regards. USB-C now blows the data transfers speeds out of the water but very few people who aren't pro users are transferring mass amounts of data to a phone/ipod via wired connection so that point is largely moot in my eyes.

Yes, the newer Beats come with a lightning jack option and a 3.5mm adapter in the box.

Wireless charging was introduced this past November in the iPhone 8, 8+, and X.
