aggressive driver - advice from LEO's (and others)? - July 31, 2009, 08:14 PM

So a long story short -- about a year ago when I was taking my 16 month old daughter with me to check on my 5 day old daughter who was in the emergency room (yes, 5 DAYS old--it was a rough start), some guy decided to bring the road rage. I won't bore folks with the details other than to say that he did it all -- hit his brakes to try to get me to hit him from behind, pulled behind me to tailgate me and then pulled alongside and screamed at me about how he was going to "kick my f*cking ass." Fine. Whatever. I had other, more important things to deal with, so I drove off and out of harm's way.

Later that evening, I filled out the Fairfax County Police's online aggressive driving report. Didn't expect anything of it, but filled it out anyway.

Fast forward to this week. Same guy ends up behind me. He clearly remembers me. There wasn't nearly as much drama, but there was still some stupidity on display.

The Fairfax County Police no longer accepts online aggressive driving reports due to budgetary reasons, so per the website, I made a call to the number provided and provided a brief report.

I'd welcome any advice from LEO's. Is there anything else that I should do?

Honestly, I'd like to take a page from Obama and just grab a beer with the guy because I think that it's just a stupid misunderstanding (he probably thought that I was racing him the first time--I was actually just trying to get to the emergency room).

But this is reality, and grabbing a beer is just not going to happen, so I just want to make sure that there's a good record of all this in case there's an unlucky third meeting in the future, particularly if my kids are in the car with me.

Thanks in advance.

(And yes, a "concealed weapon" is a nice thought, but I'm not going in that direction--though, I now have a nice wrench within reach if I need to defend myself or my family while we're in the car).

That is terrible .... Did he realize that you have a kid in the car?
Personaly I would not try talking to the guy again specialy if you have one of your kids or wife in the car. ( I mean you could get out and XXXX his ass I guess, but that probaly is just going to make matters worse ).

Ya hopefully you won't see him on the road again . If you do I would just ignore him and let him pass you. And if it comes to the point where you have to protect your family and yourself I guess a reach should do the job or possibly one of those taser devices!

So many good ideas (particularly the PIT maneuver). Tempting...tempting...

Unfortunately, I need ideas that won't land my ass in jail...

follow him home, once you know where he lives write him a really bad letter telling him how you don't appreciate that type of driving and put it in his mail box............then! pour a thin trail from the mailbox, not to much! you have to save enough gas for the rest of the house........

ignore the bastard its not worth the BS lots of people have gone crazy behind the wheel you don't know if this ass hat has a gun. just let off the gas and let the fagot go on his merry way. most road ragers are in a hurry 247 and wont wait around for you. I have had on dick face that really wouldn't stop tail gating me once on 95 south late at night. so I quickly got over and slammed the brakes and he flew past me then I slowed , he slowed I slowed to 35 mph on 95 and finally just pulled over and stopped. he was 300 feet in front stopped and got out I threw it in reverse. finally he yelled some thing got in his car and left. I just waited for a 5 min or so and then left. I had my mace and a bat but I just don't need the trouble. I don't even know why the guy was mad. I don't care. I called the police and gave a plate # and description of what happened.

Dont get involved with ass hats. Its not worth it.

Not much advice here but I got three of those letters back in my younger days. I used to just laugh at them considering I didn't try to make anyone hit my ass or pull up to people and threaten to kick their ass. I just drove fast and hung out with the wrong crowd that liked street racing. Luckily I grew out of it once I got older without anyone getting hurt.
