Aircraft flyby - Manhattan - April 29, 2009, 08:19 AM

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/04/...rss_topstories

After a YouTube video showed panicked New Yorkers scrambling as the plane flew frighteningly close to the lower Manhattan skyline, a former Homeland Security adviser questioned whether the man who approved the flyby should remain in his White House office.

Fran Townsend, who advised President George W. Bush for more than three years, called the move "crass insensitivity" in the wake of 9/11.

"I'd call this felony stupidity. This is probably not the right job for Mr. Caldera to be in if he didn't understand the likely reaction of New Yorkers, of the mayor," Townsend said Tuesday on CNN's "American Morning."

Your reactions? How long does that "wake" last? Too soon?

Meh...I have mixed feelings.

A) The plane was being tailed by an F-16 and was CLEARLY one of the Presidential Aircraft. I'm actually surprised that people didn't notice this and start trying to follow it's path expecting him to start shelling $100's out the back.

B) Having been scarred by 9/11 the way I was I can totally see why it caused hysteria in NYC. All it takes is one less observant and frightened person to start running before herd theory is invoked.

C) I think it was in poor taste to do this over NYC even if the WTC site is completely out of the frame. There are plenty of other landmarks in this country to shoot pictures near. Grand Canyon much? I don't think any other country has that.

D) State and local authorities were advised of the fly by yet witheld the info from the public on the basis of security concerns. I don't think we're gonna get a SAM smuggled in that quickly, why not let the public know?

For me... I sensed excessive scrying...

There comes a point where oversensitivity becomes not moving on... and that's unhealthy.

There are a thousand things a day to live in fear of. Some people wear tissue boxes for shoes, some deal with their mortality.

Start associating less with motorcycle folk and you realize how scared most of the general populace really is. Some people live in fear of death every day yet we're the crazy ones.

considering it was a photo-op and the president wasn't on board, they should have released some info, at least that morning or something...however, people need to stop scrying, its not that big a deal, this is just people being a panicky mob, someone needs to tell em to shut up.

Confusing the issue, since before you were ugly.

Fucking terrible.

There are reports of people evacuating buldings.

I know of a case where a girl started scrying hysterically when she could not fit on a full elevator as the elevator doors closed on the 80th floor of a skyscraper. (True Story)

What if you were in a building and saw that coming your way thru a window on the 80th floor. I guarantee you would not be like "Big Deal". You bunch of asshats.

Traumatizing to many and all for a simple photo shoot.

I have 2 words for the now unmemployed retard that authorized this "PHOTO SHOP"

"Riding a race bike is an art - a thing that you do because you feel something inside."

"I don't like being famous - it is like a prison. And driving for Ferrari would make it far worse."

"I race to win. If I am on the bike or in a car it will always be the same."

"I'm Valentino Rossi. And I want to be a person, not an icon."

What do you value more? Life or Image?

Yeah, I see that too... the flock that I work with tend to get all wide-eyed and weirded out when I mention I ride a motorcycle... "oooh, that's SO scary!" I was floored. Most people really are complacent and... well, scared. Too bad for them.

p.s. Stillie: fixed it for ya.
